In Destiny, the weekly Nightfall strike actually takes place on Mars against Valus Ta’aurc in the Cerberus Vae III strike. No burn is active.
The prophecy has come true. Over the weekend, a Japanese user made some predictions about what will happen in Destiny over the next few weeks. He correctly predicted Xur’s inventory on Friday morning and – as it turns out – also this week’s Nightfall: It has become the dreaded No-Burn-Valus-Ta’aurc.
Whether other prophecies, such as about the Iron Banner, will also come true is uncertain. A server-side patch is supposed to be deployed this evening. This will cause not only two hours of mandatory downtime but could also disrupt the schedule.
The Nightfall in Destiny is so attractive because, upon successful completion, it grants a 24.5% bonus on all experience and reputation earned. It’s also a challenge for many to tackle this relatively tough activity week after week and push the Guardian to their limits.
Modifiers in the Nightfall Strike for the week of February 24 in Destiny
The modifiers are:
- Nightfall – if the entire fireteam dies, it goes back to orbit
- Epic – makes enemies significantly stronger than in the heroic version of the strike
- Lightswitch – enemies deal significantly increased melee damage
- Angry – enemies are hardly stopped even by heavy injuries and effect hits
- Juggler – the Guardian finds no ammunition for the weapon used for a kill.
In the heroic weekly, no burn is active either, but Lightswitch is.
Which arsenal should you prefer?
It is a no-burn week, meaning: no damage type is increased as usual, so you can adjust your weapon selection accordingly. The “Nightfall” plays out like a “normal” Mars strike: players take significantly less damage than they would if certain bonuses were active, but they also take significantly longer, and it plays out somewhat sluggishly compared to Nightfalls from previous weeks in Destiny.
For the Nightfall strike, long-range weapons are always suitable. For Cerberus Vae III, something like the sniper rifle Icebreaker is definitely a good choice. Against the tank, the raid sniper rifle Black Hammer has proven effective, allowing for continuous fire if done correctly.

Towards the end against Valus Ta’aurc, there are some safe spots and a trick for how to proceed, even if you actually messed up. However, this requires a second player.
