Data miners have once again found something in the MMO shooter Destiny. They have discovered images of treasure maps in the latest version of the database.
The Planet Destiny data miners have stumbled upon something again: Whether it is gold or just fool’s gold remains unclear.
Regularly, miners scour the database of the shooter giant Destiny to see if anything has changed. This is the case again. This time, it is symbols of treasure maps that have been tracked down by the data miners. Is it soon to be said: “Treasure caves were yesterday, treasure maps are today?” Could we soon be going on a treasure hunt in Destiny?
Data miners sometimes hit the mark in Destiny, sometimes not
These data and icons should always be treated with caution. While one knows that if they find them, Bungie at least has something planned. However, when and if they will actually come into the game cannot be definitively inferred from this. Bungie regularly uploads so-called “assets”, partial data, to avoid too much server load on the respective patch day.
One does not always hit a bullseye with the data miners in a timely manner: Recently, it was reported that with the DLC “The Dark Below” shaders for ships and Sparrows would be coming into the game. Whether that is really the case is still uncertain. On the other hand, a little earlier, it was already found out which weapons and armor would be available in the DLC. Bungie has indirectly confirmed this information by showing images of Dragon’s Breath, the exotic rocket launcher that will likely drop from the final boss of the next raid on “hard”.

Recently, a similar phenomenon was observed around Halloween. The data miners found, even before it was actually available in Destiny, an item called “Flight of Shadows” that changed the respawn. Four Sparrows, which one thought would come into the game over Halloween, were however not available, likely reserved for later.
Treasure maps found, but what do they mean?
This time, the icons for a whole series of “treasure maps” have been discovered in Destiny. A total of seven icons suggest “treasures” on Venus, Mars, the Moon, and in the Cosmodrome. Particularly exciting: The treasure maps come in several quality levels: common (green), superior (purple), and exotic (gold). As one of the possible rewards, some jump ships have been newly found in the Destiny database, which are listed there as “TreasureShips”.
It is likely that players must go on a scavenger hunt in Destiny using these treasure maps, at the end of which a special item awaits them. A similar concept exists in The Elder Scrolls Online. There, a player finds a treasure map that shows outlines of the geography of the world. Based on these clues, a player must then hunt down and locate the spot.
At Planet Destiny, there is speculation whether the treasure maps will be simple “search and find” missions in Destiny or part of event chains, where players have to gather individual clues until they lead to something greater.
Recently, Bungie announced that with “The Dark Below” they would explore new possibilities in storytelling that would also be more loot-focused. A varied scavenger hunt, perhaps in the form of new bounties, would certainly be an engaging activity for players, who are longing for something new.
