Tower Legend 4: Destiny will be developed for 10 years.
Here’s how the rumor goes: Destiny is supposed to last 10 years. But I’m already so bored! How do they plan to achieve that?
Here’s how the rumor started: It is a clear statement from Bungie that the universe, the brand, Destiny is designed for 10 years. From this, it was inferred that the game must deliver lasting enjoyment for 10 years.
Here’s why the rumor seems plausible: I’ve read it everywhere in black and white. Destiny is supposed to last 10 years.
Here’s why the rumor is nonsense: It is not so much a rumor as it is a “misunderstanding.” The Call of Duty series, for example, has been going for 12 years and might still be a hit in another 10 years. But that does not refer to a specific Call of Duty from 6 years ago or in 4 years but to the brand itself.

There used to be a contract between Activision and Bungie that became public. It said, in essence, that the plan was to release a new Destiny every even year (2014/16/18/20), a major expansion called Comet every odd year (2015/17/19/21), and two smaller DLCs per year. However, it is not known (rumor-within-a-rumor) whether this is all still current.
In any case, the phrase “lasts 10 years” did not mean that a Destiny title will not leave the PlayStation or Xbox for 10 years. But rather that the entire project is designed for these 10 years. Of course, there will also be quieter periods during this time. It was never a promise to seize everlasting world domination … that is supposed to happen, according to our information, at some point in the 2030s.
This “10-year” statement is an enthusiastic marketing message that should have been phrased much more cautiously.
What’s true: Bungie will develop and maintain a Destiny franchise for 10 years starting from 2014. Titles are supposed to take place in this universe.
