Tower Legend 3: The weekly Nightfall strikes are random.
Here’s how the rumor goes: Tomorrow, Valus Ta’Aurc could come with solar damage! He hasn’t been here for a long time!
Here’s how the rumor started: Just out of a desire to guess. The Nightfall strikers appear to be random, have modifiers, and there could be something really cool in it! For example, something with solar damage, I have such a great weapon! Finally, I can unleash solar damage!
Here’s why the rumor seems plausible: Well, during the “Darkness Lies” expansion, some surprising new combinations appeared, such as two strikes with all three burns active in a row.
Here’s why the rumor is nonsense: Until the Darkness Lies DLC, there were only 5 strikes that were eligible for the Nightfall. Each of these strikes appeared in 2 variations. That was a “circle” that repeated (shown on the right). Sepiks Prime, for instance, could come as both Void and Arc Burn.
With the Darkness Lies expansion, a “new circle” was created. There are now 6 strikes that can become Nightfall strikes. Of the “5 old strikes,” however, there is only “one variant” left. Sepiks Prime, for instance, can only appear, to my knowledge, as “Arc Burn.”
The newly added sixth strike, however, “Will of Crota,” can appear in 4 variations and appears significantly more often than the other 5.
At the moment it is still unclear what the exact cycle looks like. Perhaps Bungie has reduced the frequency of “Will of Crota” after the first few months and numerous complaints. That is currently confusing the concept.
However, there has always been a clear pattern with only relatively few “possible combinations.” It has never been the case that everything is truly random and possible.
What’s true: “The weekly Nightfall strikes are not random; the selection follows a specific pattern, and each strike is only possible in certain variations.”
