In the MMO shooter Destiny , the Peregrine Greaves, are an exotic leg armor for Titans. But are they worth the exotic slot?
This week, Xur is selling the exotic leg armor “Peregrine Greaves” for 13 strange coins. Even if he doesn’t have them in stock, players can receive them as a random exotic reward.
What can the Peregrine Greaves do in Destiny?
First of all, they have the value of “Intellect.” This is quite popular among Titans. It allows the super to be reused faster, and if Titans are into one thing, then it’s … okay, it’s punching people in the face. But if they are into two things, then it’s punching people in the face and taking out people from above with the Fist of Chaos.
It is clearly an “offensive” item, suitable for Strikers, with two perks:
- Heavy Weapon Ammo – surprisingly allows Titans to carry more heavy weapon ammunition.
- Peregrine Strike – Increases shoulder charge damage when activated in the air.
The rather negative view of the Peregrine Greaves

In PvE, the shoulder charge simply does too little damage; one can hardly impress Tier 2 mobs. Moreover, one always has to engage in melee for the shoulder charge. Those who dare to enter PvE with this may have a lot of fun, but they also die consistently. Unless maybe Arc Burn and Brawler are active at the same time, there are better alternatives.
In PvP, the boots are seen even more critically. A shoulder charge kills almost everything except in rare cases. For the few moments when not facing a Sunsinger or Blade Dancer with an active super, these boots simply aren’t worth it. These situations are just too rare.
It is a very stylish item with no real utility.
The rather positive view of the Peregrine Greaves in Destiny
Our friends from ProNDC have also taken a look at them and come to a similar conclusion.
However, in the current Nightfall strike, they have pushed the shoulder charge to the max. Because that’s exactly when the combination of “Brawler” and “Arc” Burn is active.
And while the greaves increase the shoulder charge damage more than threefold without these modifiers, with these modifiers, the perfect storm, as it were, yields incredible values:

Conclusion: The Peregrine Greaves are not a useful exotic. In 99.9% of cases, it would probably be better to wear another piece as a Titan focused on effectiveness. For the special situations when trying to take out a Sunsinger or a Bladedancer with an active super, or when in a situation with Brawler and/or Arc Burn active, the Peregrine Greaves, however, have a chance to shine.
And besides, they just look really good. It’s probably the poker starting hand “Ace-King” among Titan exotics. One often compares it to the tennis player Anna Kournikova: looks good, rarely wins.
