In Destiny, we present tips and tricks for the Crucible mode “Rift”.
Currently, the December Iron Banner 2016 is underway. The mode “Rift” is up next, which is considered controversial in the Iron Banner. It’s all about grabbing a Spark and dunking it in the enemy Rift. If successful, the cool Guardians refer to it as a “Dunk”.
The Rift mode requires a specific playstyle where two things are particularly important: teamwork and communication. Therefore, try to play in a fireteam whenever possible. If you’re playing solo, stay close to your teammates and avoid charging into battle on your own.
Grab the Spark
The Spark is as contested as “B” in control matches – but even more intense. As soon as the “Spark” charges up, all Guardians flock to this location. Your goal is to gain control of the area to pick up the Spark. There’s just one tip: advance as a team. If everyone rushes to the Spark one by one, you will be taken out one by one as well. Move forward together and keep an eye on the places from where the enemy might come.
Bring the Spark into the enemy Rift
Once you have the Spark, it’s important to protect the runner. There are several techniques:
The aggressive push: If the enemy team is scattered across the map, the runner with “bodyguards” rushes straight to the Rift and ignites it before the opponents can regroup and defend the Rift. High risk.
The conservative push: All teammates form a wall in front of the runner and protect him by all means. The Spark bearer does not rush off immediately but waits until he has his protectors around him. The Guardians in the wall sacrifice themselves for the runner if necessary. A well-organized 5-man wall that communicates with each other is difficult to breach in Rift mode. Only super attacks can break through this.
Distracting maneuver: In this case, the runner is on his own. All team members attack the enemy on one side of the map while the runner sneaks past on the other side. In theory, this is a good method, but in practice, it is not reliable. It heavily depends on the behavior of the opponents. The conservative push can be combined with this distracting maneuver.
General tips:
Stormcallers, Hammer Titans, or Blade Dancers can clear the way for the runner with their super.
To easier acquire the Spark, a bubble can be placed.
Always attempt to pick up the Spark. Normally, the team that holds the Spark the most wins.
Defend your Rift
If the enemy manages to grab the Spark, fall back immediately. Now it’s time to defend your Rift and to stop the enemy runner early.
Keep an eye on the areas from where the enemy might approach. If all six Guardians are in one place looking down a corridor, that’s not helpful. Spread out. With grenades, super attacks, and team fire, you can stop them, especially at choke points.
However, one problem is that it is rarely possible to monitor all paths that the runner could rush in from. If you separate too much as a team, you also spread your firepower. Once the runner is sighted, communicate this.
