In the MMO shooter Destiny, it has now been revealed what the treasure keys are for and what you can do with them later.
Currently, Guardians are collecting “treasure keys” in Destiny. Although they have been translated into German as “Schatzschüssel”, these are not cooking devices, but rather “keys”. But what can you do with them? What can they unlock? Is it worth collecting them? Especially since these things are quite rare and drop from the Aether chests that appear after completing one of the new Fallen Public Events.
Guardians, are you earning keys from Fallen chests? Vault them! You can only carry five of them in the wild. pic.twitter.com/ezMzfLvgyi

The key opens the lock
A few days ago, there was already information from a Forbes journalist who visited Bungie. He said: These keys are available after a final battle in the “Prison of Elders” on difficulty levels 32 and 34 (no one has played 35 yet). In this final battle, players receive a key. Once the final boss is defeated, you go into a treasure room and can use the key to open one of three chests. Here awaits the loot.
No one seems to have shown the treasure room itself yet; it presumably appears after defeating one of the “final bosses” and returning to the airlock, but here is the Hive boss from the 34 PoE for you:
Now there is further information from IGN, which also visited Bungie. It is said that the final boss in a “Prison of Elders” challenge drops a key. But only one per week. On the second visit, nothing more.
After that, you go into the treasure room. You can only open one chest per run. This means that if players kill the final boss a second time in the week with one character, they can enter the treasure room but will be left without a key and cannot open anything. Unless they already have a key before going into the Prison of Elders.
It seems that the “treasure keys” collected during the event can be used in “bonus” rounds in the “Prison of Elders”. You can thus gain loot more than once a week in a challenge with these. According to IGN, these keys will also later be available as rare rewards in public events. In the “Prison of Elders”, there seems to be loot only in these treasure chests – besides the reputation rewards from Variks: Here, legendary or exotic items should be inside.
How to farm these keys effectively at the moment, you can read in this article about the event “The Great Wolf Hunt”. It is important to understand that the Aether keys and the Aether chests, from which the treasure keys come, are likely not tied to the event “The Great Wolf Hunt” but occur regularly as “Public Events”.
