In Destiny, we look at a new auto rifle: The Unyielding Tree. What can this Iron Banner exclusive weapon do?
For the first Iron Banner after the launch of “Rise of Iron”, Efrideet brought “The Unyielding Tree” (auto rifle) and “The Proud Tower Top” (shotgun). In this article, we take a closer look at the auto rifle: How does it perform in practice?
How do I obtain “The Unyielding Tree”?
There are four ways to obtain this weapon. A prerequisite for this is that the monthly Iron Banner event takes place:
- By purchasing from Efrideet: In the coming months, Efrideet will bring back the Unyielding Tree with fixed perks – as in the October Iron Banner 2016.
- As a random drop after Iron Banner matches: When Efrideet offers the weapon, it can also be randomly obtained after matches, with random perks.
- As a reward for completing bounty quests: If you successfully master the new “Iron Banner” bounties, you will receive an immediate reward. The weapon rewards can include all Iron Banner weapons – not just the two weapons offered by Efrideet.
- As a random reward for the quest “The Pursuit of Light”, where you need to reach ranks 1, 3, and 5 in the Iron Banner.
What makes “The Unyielding Tree” special in Destiny?
“The Unyielding Tree” was forged in honor of Saladin and is an auto rifle with maximum fire rate and minimal impact. The advantages of this weapon lie in the magazine size, reload speed, aim assist, and very fast “Time to Kill”: 17 body shots are needed to eliminate another Guardian. Here are the stats:
The major disadvantages are the very low range and stability. The stability is not enough to easily control the high fire rate. Therefore, you need to rely on perks that specifically compensate for this drawback.
Options include: Smallbore, Balance Compensation, Hand-laid Stock, Injection Molding, Reinforced Frame, or Perfect Balance. Due to the large magazine and high fire rate, Persistence is also interesting, making the weapon more precise the longer it is fired.

How does the weapon perform in PvP?
“The Unyielding Tree” is an excellent weapon that can eliminate opponents in a short time – but under two conditions: The opponents must not be too far away, and you need to be able to “tame” the weapon. If many shots hit, the enemy will fall quickly; if not, you will come off worse.
Nexxoss Gaming also has a tip for everyone who says: “I actually like the weapon quite a bit, but I can’t handle it at all”: Try out the perk “Fire Focus“. When zoomed in, the weapon fires slower but deals additional damage. This makes it easier to keep the crosshair on the opponent. However, the TtK decreases slightly.
Otherwise, the rule is: Practice makes perfect. If you have little experience with this auto rifle archetype, you first need to familiarize yourself with it. “The Unyielding Tree” is a good option for that. The weapon is deadly at close range and can be complemented in the special weapon slot with a sniper.
