In less than a month, the expansion “The Rise of Iron” for Destiny will be released. Guardians still have some time to prepare for the upcoming dangers. The question is: How?

Preparation is everything
The hype train has left the station and is heading towards September 20, when fresh content revolving around Lord Saladin in Destiny awaits us. In addition to the recently announced private matches, new story missions, weapon quests, and a brand new raid are on the way. To ensure you’re not left in the rain next month, we offer you helpful tips and tricks as we did for the last expansion to get the most out of the Rise of Iron.
1. Glimmer
Whether it’s upgrading new gear, purchasing weapon parts, or acquiring synths – you can never have enough Glimmer. Bring your Glimmer supply up to the current maximum of 25,000 to be prepared for all uses. If you also keep the race-specific items (such as Axiom Bolts, House Banners) that can be converted at the Cryptarch for 200 Glimmer, you can easily push your Glimmer supply over the 25,000 mark.
2. Legendary Marks
The ultimate currency. As the inventory of weapon and armor vendors will change with the new expansion, there are likely to be exciting rolls that players will want to have in their inventory. Currently, the cap for legendary marks is 200.
However, this value can still be significantly increased. Certain bounties can also reward legendary marks upon successful completion. For example, you receive 25 legendary marks per character upon completing the three weekly Iron Banner bounties. Furthermore, you can earn up to 50 legendary marks per character weekly in the Trials of Osiris.
So meet the requirements for completing the bounties, but don’t redeem them. This way, you will have access to almost 600 legendary marks at the start of the new expansion.
Drawback: By not redeeming the weekly Iron Banner bounties, it takes significantly longer to reach rank 5. However, you will have the last chance to do so in the current Iron Banner, as there won’t be another Iron Banner before the new expansion.
3. Exotic Engrams
Get the item “3 of Coins” from Xur to farm exotic engrams. If Bungie stays true to its line, you can hope for new exotic gear with updated light levels after the expansion launches. Whether this logic will also apply to legendary engrams is unknown but unlikely.
4. Bounties
Complete bounties but don’t redeem them to access experience and faction reputation right at the start of the new add-on.
5. The Factions
With the new expansion, when leveling up with a faction, you can choose whether you want to receive armor or a weapon. Bring your factions close to leveling up to take advantage of this new feature right at launch. Please note that you only have access to reward packages starting from level 3. The same principle also applies to the Cryptarch. So make sure to bring experience points just before leveling up.
6. Consumables
Strange Coins, Light Particles, weapon parts, and so on. Various consumables have gained importance. Gather these items until your vaults burst. Light particles (gear upgrades) and strange coins (Xur) can be obtained after strikes and crucible matches. Thankfully, you can buy weapon parts from the weapon vendor. Who knows if this will also be possible with armor pieces starting next month.
7. Weapons and Armor
With the new expansion, a general overhaul of weapon balance is also likely. Bungie often makes changes to weapon perks in this context. If you receive a weapon or armor piece that you are unsure whether to dismantle, it’s better to hold onto it. You never know what Bungie will do with perks like “Guerilla Fighter” or “Dug Up.” Since you can raise any current gear to the new maximum level of 400, it may be worth keeping certain gear pieces.
