In the MMO shooter Destiny there are new exotic armor pieces that came with House of Wolves. This week, Xur is selling the Warlock gloves “Handcuffs of Nothing.” What can they do?
Nine new exotic armor pieces have arrived in Destiny with House of Wolves: We introduced the Hunter helmet “Heavenly Nighthawk” to you last week, today it’s the Voidwalker Gloves “Handcuffs of Nothing.” They are available for 13 strange coins from Xur or with a low probability in the Nightfall, from a glove engram or in one of the chests in the Prison of Elders. In the two raids The Glass Chamber and Crota’s End, no new exotic armor pieces can drop.
The stats of the gloves
In terms of stats, they are “Split” gloves, meaning they don’t have a single stat but both intellect and discipline. Currently, it seems that the maximum values for Split gloves with 42 Light and House of Wolves are 68 each. However, these parameters should still be approached with caution at the moment.
The current gloves from Xur show relatively weak values of 46 and 62. It seems advisable, if one is relying on the gloves, to aim for a discipline value of 272. This guarantees 100% and a significantly reduced cooldown time for grenades.
Handcuffs of Nothing focus on scatter grenades
The gloves Handcuffs of Nothing have three perks that make them special. These are:
- Energy Projection: Increases grenade throw distance.
- Innervation: Reduces grenade cooldown when picking up a light sphere.
- Scatter Charge: Activates targeting for scatter grenades. And gives an extra charge of scatter grenades.
The Handcuffs of Nothing are Crucible exotics for a very specific playstyle
Our friends from ProNDC have taken a look at the Handcuffs of Nothing in a video.
They are not very impressed with the item. It seems that the targeting capability of the scatter grenades is not pronounced enough. The Handcuffs of Nothing are designed for a specific playstyle of the Voidwalker. Good and precise throwers are needed for them to achieve kills regularly in PvP and justify occupying the exotic slot.
However, there are already some videos and especially comments from other players who are thrilled with the “Handcuffs of Nothing” and achieve great success in PvP with them. They also say that you have to aim carefully and need some practice to reliably secure kills with the scatter grenades, especially kills that you wouldn’t get without them. They are ideally suited for situations where enemies are close together.
Some who only know the stats call it a “mini Gjallarhorn.” They imagine throwing scatter grenades in the general direction of the enemy – in reality, the gloves are far from that: The tactic of “throwing scatter grenades randomly and hoping to get something” will probably work in the rarest cases.
In PvE, there are probably better exotic armor pieces. Here, many swear by the Obsidian Will. However, scatter grenades have not been extensively tested here yet. So there could still be surprises.
