In Destiny, the change to the Companion App results in a short-term boost in mood. Only users of Windows Phone are left empty-handed. The Companion App does not work for them.
That was a surprise in Destiny, as small changes are usually announced months in advance. And then, many are annoyed when fixes for exotic weapons or a crucial bug fix take so long to arrive. But on Thursday evening, suddenly it was said: “Oh by the way, you can now change your inventory across characters using the Companion App!” No one expected that.

Small Change – Big Impact
The change is an example of a small “quality of life” improvement that makes a significant difference in practice. This is certainly influenced by the fact that the inventory system in Destiny, with “logging in and out” and “sending items around” and “putting in the vault” and “logging in again”, especially since there were always loading screens, does not meet today’s standards. Especially in an action MMO that is so fluid and organic in its shooter segments, it felt like a foreign body. It was as if the developers did not expect players to want to play more than one character. A change was overdue. Players are now realizing how annoying the previous system was.
In contrast, the announced change that you could check your reputation at any time fizzled out quite a bit: This is no longer interesting for most users today. Especially since higher reputation levels with the factions do not make a difference.
Mobile Vault Brings New Momentum to Destiny with Weapon Patch
In contrast, the Companion App sparked joy, for example on reddit: “This is a game changer,” it was said there. Or even: “This changes everything!” Together with the weapon balance changes in patch 1.1.1., the mobile vault seems to have given a boost to Destiny, which had been lacking in recent weeks. This was also necessary: “Real content” will still take a while to arrive.
However, how long this will last is: questionable. A similarly “important” change occurred a few months ago, back then Destiny eliminated the extremely tedious farming of planetary materials, which many had previously complained about. This quickly became the new standard and was no longer anything special.
Aside from the automatic rifles affected by the balance patch, Windows Phone owners are currently left out in the cold. There is no official Companion App for WP, much to their dismay. While there are apps (like Destiny Stats) that have managed to replicate everything almost as well as the official app, or even better: direct access to the game is not possible with these apps.
