How to get the Jade Rabbit
The scout rifle “Jade Rabbit” is the only weapon in Destiny that can currently be obtained by players on the PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4 at this moment. This is likely to remain the case until fall 2016.
Until then, the “Jade Rabbit” will probably not be available from Xur, but only in exotic engrams or through one of the other random rewards in the King’s Fall like in Nightfall strikes or the raid.
What makes the “Jade Rabbit” special?
The Jade Rabbit is a scout rifle with extremely high range, high impact, and strong aim assist – meaning, it is relatively easy to take down an opponent at long range with the Jade Rabbit.
The scout rifle closely resembles the “Fate of All Fools,” which never really made it into the game and remains unique, as Bungie handed it over to a severely ill guardian. Its appearance is more of a modified “The Stranger’s Rifle.”
The special perk of the Jade Rabbit is “Fate of All Fools.” When body shots are landed, the damage of the next precision shot increases and ammunition returns to the magazine.
A body shot increases the damage of the next headshot by 9%, up to a maximum of 36%. Additionally, a headshot after a body shot reloads the magazine.
This is particularly interesting since the Jade Rabbit only has 7 bullets, 11 if you choose “extended magazine.”
The other two fixed perks are “Spray and Play” and “Zen Moment.” With Spray and Play, reloading is extremely quick when the magazine is empty. The “Zen Moment” ensures that stability increases with each hit.
How good is the Jade Rabbit in Destiny?
Unfortunately, the Jade Rabbit does not deal elemental damage. “Fate of All Fools” was intended as a Solar weapon, but they have moved away from that altogether.
The Jade Rabbit has two downsides: it consumes the exotic slot and fires relatively slowly. However, it reloads quickly and plays simply like a good sniper in the primary slot. The “quick reload” part might be a bit redundant: Those who use the perk correctly won’t need to reload.
The handling is very pleasant. Players report that they get along well with the weapon. It is, however, designed for long ranges. Many prefer something for close range for the primary weapon and then take a sniper rifle for the long range. With the Jade Rabbit, one would need a shotgun as a supplement for close range.
In PvP, the Jade Rabbit deals 73 damage with headshots and 49 with body shots.
Overall, the “Jade Rabbit” is a good and solid weapon, but it does not fit the standard playstyle.
Most who play at long ranges turn to one of the strong legendary sniper rifles like The Black Spindle or Eirene and then take an exotic primary weapon that complements this style well, like Zhalo Supercell. Also, the second selectable perk does not give the Jade Rabbit any real advantage in Destiny since the fixed perks already address the “reloading and low ammunition” problem.
A cool and well-balanced weapon that Xbox players won’t really miss. It is not a second Gjallarhorn.
