In the MMO shooter Destiny, we take a closer look at the Iron Banner fusion rifle “The Clever Dragon” – a fearsome beast.
Since “Rise of Iron,” “The Clever Dragon” has been the new Iron Banner fusion rifle in Destiny. Already in October, some Guardians obtained the dragon as a reward from a quest and praised it to the skies. Comparisons to the outstanding Grasp of Malok were quickly drawn.
Currently, the November Iron Banner is underway, in which this weapon by Efrideet is being offered. But what makes this weapon so powerful? How can you get it? And which perks make up the God Roll, the best possible roll? We will answer these questions below.
How to Get “The Clever Dragon”
You can only obtain The Clever Dragon when the Iron Banner, the monthly PvP event, is active. There are two possibilities, provided you have already completed the quest line with Efrideet:
- The fusion rifle will be featured, as it was in November 2016. Then you can buy it from Efrideet with Iron Banner rank 5. Additionally, there is a chance that it drops randomly after an Iron Banner match.
- During any Iron Banner, it can be randomly received as a reward for completing the Iron Banner bounties. However, the chances are low.
What Makes “The Clever Dragon” in Destiny
To not beat around the bush: This thing is powerful and is one of the best primary weapons in the game. The Clever Dragon belongs to the fusion rifle archetype with very low impact but high rate of fire. This also includes the Grasp of Malok and The Waltz, although the latter does not impress with its base stats.
The Grasp of Malok and The Clever Dragon stand out here, which has led to the community often reading: “The Clever Dragon is the new Grasp of Malok!” Let’s compare them briefly:
Both weapons have the identical rate of fire (77) and impact (4). The range is slightly lower for the Dragon at 31 compared to the Grasp (33), but stability is 58, which is 4 points higher. However, the Grasp of Malok has a higher reload speed (61 to 59) and a better aim assist (82 to 77). Overall, the “Grasp of Malok” has slightly better stats.

Which Perks Make Up the God Roll?
With Efrideet, The Clever Dragon in the November Iron Banner comes with a strong roll that some Guardians – including some from our community – have dubbed as God Roll. Thanks to Perfect Balance and Balance Adjustment, the weapon becomes extremely stable. These two perks are probably essential for the God Roll.
Which additional perk is necessary for the God Roll can now be debated. High Caliber Rounds is a strong perk for a rapid-firing fusion rifle. At Efrideet, Snapshot is also available, which isn’t bad either. But if you have Perfect Balance, Balance Adjustment, and High Caliber Rounds on The Clever Dragon, you can confidently claim it’s the God Roll.
Currently, many Guardians with this weapon are seen in the Crucible. It is extremely strong, which makes it an excellent option for the primary slot. And unless Bungie changes the meta soon, it will likely continue to be so for a while.
