In Year 1 of Destiny, there were numerous powerful exotic hand cannons that we have already presented here. If you wanted to take your exotic slot for a different weapon type but still didn’t want to forgo a hand cannon, Fatebringer was the first choice.
The Fatebringer was considered the strongest legendary hand cannon in Year 1. Even today, Guardians look for rolls on their hand cannons (like the Imago Loop) that resemble the “Fatebringer roll”. This consisted of Outlaw, Explosive Rounds, and Firefly – a deadly mix for PvE to clear numerous adds.
The special feature of the Fatebringer was the Arc damage. Even in Year 1, primary weapons with elemental damage were rare and sought after, and the Fatebringer stood out in this regard. With the Crota expansion, the Fatebringer faced tough competition from “Crota’s Word” – a legendary hand cannon that dealt Void damage. However, it could not diminish the cult surrounding the Fatebringer.
