Since “The Dawning,” Guardians are once again hopping on their Sparrows to race against each other in the SRL. However, there is much more to consider in these Sparrow races than just hitting the gas and roughly aiming at the Boost gates.
How to Improve Your Ride and Win Sparrow Races in Destiny
If you are always trailing behind the other Guardians, you might want to try these tips and tricks:
- Complete the SRL Gear: This armor not only looks aerodynamic, but it also provides advantages on the track. The helmet is particularly useful: with air control, you can accelerate or decelerate your Sparrow by moving the left stick forward or backward while in the air.
- Show Tricks: Always try to perform tricks while you are in the air. This will give you more fuel thanks to the SRL leg armor. However, that doesn’t mean you should jump over every ramp. There are plenty of sections where you need to be in the air. We show you how to perform tricks and stunts here.
- Always Take the Shortcut on Venus: Now a map-specific tip: after the big jump on the Venus map, you can take a shortcut to the left. This always gives you an advantage, even if you miss the Booster gate beforehand. Here is a screenshot for orientation:
- Your Sparrow does not have to go through the Booster gates, but rather the center of your screen. The Sparrow is mostly positioned in the center, but the vehicle can also whiz just left or right past the gates – as long as the middle of the screen crosses the gates, you will receive the boost.
- The last “tip” is based on the experiences of some users and is not officially confirmed or otherwise substantiated: If you want to win a Sparrow race, it might help to take last place in the race before. Allegedly, matchmaking is based on the results (including the time) of the last race – and thus on the skills. If you have a bad race, it often leads to a better performance in the next one. Therefore, it is also difficult to achieve multiple victories in a row, as you will then be matched with better drivers. However, this observation is not confirmed.
