In Destiny, agility is one of the mysterious attributes of a Guardian. What exactly does it do? And how much faster does it make you?
Destiny was developed with the idea that players should receive as few numbers as possible and not have to dive deep into the mechanics of the game. Weapons should feel different, the gameplay should somehow adapt to the stats, but nobody should be sitting with a calculator to figure it all out. Intuition is key!
Destiny is often a game of faith and feeling, not knowledge
For many of us, the value “agility” is like a book with seven seals. Yes, somehow you get faster. Most of us realized it might be important during the raid Crota’s End at the first passage, where the last and slowest, the poor fat Warlock, was devoured time and again by the Thralls. Pros had already figured out in the Crucible that being the fastest Guardian from Mexico brings surprising advantages. But the exact values are a mystery to most of us – like so many other things in Destiny.
One player who did not want to be satisfied with “Yes… somehow you really get faster” is the reddit user “Ice_Cracker”, who delved deeper into movement speed and agility in a YouTube video.
How does agility affect speed?
- Without agility, you move at approximately 5 meters per second, with full agility 6, which is a 20% increase.
- Every class gains the same speed advantage from one point in agility.
- Carrying a heavy weapon reduces your speed by 20%.
- Crouching results in a 46% speed loss. Agility also affects this, and the 20% penalty from rocket launchers or machine guns applies as well.
- However, when sprinting, all classes are equally fast; agility or which weapon you carry generally does not matter (exceptions are surely the Hunter skill “Lightweight” and possibly the MIDA-Multi-Tool, though Ice_Cracker is not sure about that).
These items and skills break the sound barrier (or at least the speed limit in the Tower)
Exceptions to these rules include:
- The weapon attribute “Lightweight”, which gives +2 additional points in agility that have a much greater effect than they should and break the cap of 10. If you get your agility to 11 or 12, you will notice a significant increase of about 8.5%. Overall, “Lightweight” should not be understood as really adding 2 points; it distorts the generally linear increasing curve and is stronger the more points you already have. “Single-Point-Sling” has a similar effect, if it remains below the bonuses of Lightweight at maximum agility.
- The weapon MIDA-Multi-Tool has a special speed boost that significantly increases movement speed. This exotic weapon can also activate “Lightweight”.
- The Hunter boots Radiant Dance Machines enhance speed while aiming.
- And the Blade Dancer ability “Lightweight”, which can actually increase sprint speed.
With these abilities and items, it is possible to exceed the normal limits. Speed enthusiasts can thus be advised to go for the Blade Dancer with the MIDA-Multi-Tool. According to eyewitness reports, the one with all the tricks runs almost as fast as everyone else sprints, and he has his own show that airs on Tuesdays before “Gotham” on Pro7: The Flash.
