In the MMO shooter Destiny, Guardians show what can be done with a bit of creativity and a Sleeper Simulant: Sleeper Roulette!
Have you completed the Nightfall strike this week? Has the raid loot been cleared out and have you reached rank 5 in the May Iron Banner? What can you do now?
Before you start counting Xur’s tentacles, you can try this “sport” with your friends. Recently, a few Guardians showcased the so-called “Sleeper Roulette” on reddit – and many community members responded with comments like “This is awesome!”, “This is gold!”.
However, Sleeper Roulette is not new. Some Guardians play it regularly after raids, for example. If you’ve never heard of it, here’s a video about it:
How does Sleeper Roulette work?
First, every participant needs the Sleeper Simulant. This is the heavy fusion rifle that’s tied to a detailed quest and deals massive damage. This weapon is particularly popular against tough bosses, especially in the Challenge Mode of Atheon.
In addition to the “Sleeper Simulant”, you need at least one Defender Titan who can create a bubble. The participants then gather in the bubble and either shoot simultaneously or one after another with the Exotic. Then it’s decided: Either you get killed by your own shot or you don’t.
Because the Sleeper Simulant has the special property that its laser can ricochet off surfaces multiple times. In other words, if you fire this in the bubble, the laser will whiz around you. If it hits you, you’re dead. Friendly fire is not possible.
Hence the name of the game “Sleeper Roulette”: Before the shot, you don’t know whether you’ll hit or not. Just like in Russian Roulette.
