In the MMO shooter Destiny, skeleton keys and SIVA key fragments cause problems.
The skeleton keys themselves are a great feature and were received positively by the community at the launch of “Rise of Iron” as meaningful additions. With them, you don’t have to play the same strike over and over again in hopes that the boss will finally drop the coveted strike-exclusive item.
Instead, you can play the Nightfall strike and a colorful selection of SIVA strikes, earning skeleton keys and then using them in the desired strike to access the exclusive objects. Which strike-exclusive items are available in which strike, you can read here.
Skeleton Keys and SIVA Key Fragments Disappear
There have been ongoing issues with the skeleton keys throughout the months of RoI. Currently, Bungie is investigating user reports that skeleton keys and SIVA key fragments are suddenly disappearing from character inventory.
This annoyance tends to occur more frequently when the maximum number of skeleton keys (5) or SIVA key fragments (200) is reached. Additionally, the items can disappear when logging out, switching characters, quitting the game, or turning off the console after not picking up an engram (that contains the key) in the game.
As a temporary solution, Bungie suggests the following:
- Make sure you always have enough inventory space for the items
- and collect the white engrams that enemies drop (which contain the keys)

This is not the first skeleton key problem that guardians and Bungie have had to deal with. Right after the launch of RoI, skeleton keys didn’t drop at all, then they disappeared from the post office and were permanently deleted. There was also recurring criticism that Bungie was too stingy with the keys. For the “The Dawning” event, the drop rate was increased, and Nightfall became a guaranteed source for skeleton keys.
In this article, we will look at all weapons that are only available in strikes. Which ones are worthwhile?
