In Destiny 2, the new Season 9 is starting soon. As a little appetizer, Bungie has now presented moving footage of the changed Solar Hunter. We show you what new tricks he has up his sleeve.
What’s coming in Destiny 2? In less than a week, the Season of Dawn is upon the Guardians. To get you in the mood for the new season, Bungie has released among other things the roadmap and a fresh trailer for the Season of Dawn.
We know that extensive changes for outdated Solar classes are planned for the launch of the season on December 10th. In addition to the Warlock and Titan, the Hunter will receive some cool adjustments.
In the weekly newsletter to the community (TWaB), the Destiny developer has now given you a little sneak peek at the improved Gunslinger. In three short video clips, you can see the revamped Solar Hunter in action.
The new Solar Hunter is this hot
Here’s how the Golden Gun changes: The skill tree ‘Way of the Sharpshooter’ gets a completely new perk: Knock ’em down. This is what the new skill can do:
- Precision kills increase weapon stability and ADS speed.
- Knock ’em down has a timer. This starts at 10 seconds, but each kill/assist can increase the time to up to 25 seconds.
- If you activate the Super (Golden Gun) with a timer of 20 seconds or more, the buff is consumed and grants your Super extra damage.

In the shown clip, the Gunslinger is seen facing off against the Fallen and a walker tank. After some precision kills, the Hunter turns his attention to the tank. The damage buff from knock ’em down seems to increase the damage of the Golden Gun Super by 50%.
Bungie also announced that the ‘Heavenly Night Hawk’ will not be stackable with the new perk.
Your throwing knife is now a one-shot kill: The Gunslinger has a throwing knife as a melee. For the ‘Way of the Sharpshooter’, the throwing knife has been heavily redesigned:
- The skill is now called ‘Balanced Knife’ and deals significantly more damage.
- You need a sort of preparation (wind-up phase) to throw the knife.
- The blade can bounce off surfaces once.
- Precision kills completely recharge the ability.

The Balanced Knife knocks out any opponent in the Crucible with a precise hit instantly. The damage is 212. The maximum health in PvP is 201.
The announced wind-up phase doesn’t seem to be very long in reality – and by far not as much as some Guardians have feared. The new knife is likely to make the Hunter significantly more dangerous in the Crucible. At least in the shown clip, the Gunslinger is unstoppable.

The Hunter now lays even sneakier traps: In the last clip, Bungie showcases how powerful the combination of throwing knife and grenade is. The throwing knife in the skill tree ‘Way of the Bandit’ can now be used for explosive ambushes.
The Hunter places a light sensor mine and a throwing knife in a narrow corridor. Both abilities remain there until an unsuspecting enemy comes. The enemy Guardian triggers both skills with their approach and is immediately sent to the virtual afterlife.
The grenade deals 160 damage and the explosive throwing knife hits for 105 damage. But see for yourself:
