In Destiny , we take a closer look at the exotic Hunter gauntlets “Shinobu’s Vow”.
With “The Rise of Iron”, several new exotic armor pieces were introduced to the game, including the gauntlets “Shinobu’s Vow” for the Hunter. More specifically, they were designed for the Arcstrider subclass, as they significantly enhance its grenade jump ability. In terms of design, they strongly resemble the Handcuffs of the Void from the Warlock.
How to obtain “Shinobu’s Vow”?
If you want to claim these stylish Hunter gauntlets as your own, there are several options available. The prerequisite is that you possess “The Rise of Iron”.
- Raids: Both in the “Wrath of the Machine” and King’s Fall raid, the gauntlets can be obtained.
- Nightfall Strike
- Trials of Osiris
- Xur: Occasionally, the exotic vendor, the Agent of the Nine, has “Shinobu’s Vow” available.
What makes “Shinobu’s Vow” special in Destiny?
“Shinobu’s Vow” is clearly aimed at a grenade playstyle. These are the perks:
- The primary perk is “New Tricks”: Enhances the grenade jump and grants you an additional grenade charge.
- Fastball: Increases grenade throw distance.
In addition, either Momentum Transfer (bonus melee energy on grenade hits) or Impact Induction (bonus grenade energy on melee hits) may be available.
In a different perk selection, random bonuses that improve the reload speed of weapon types are included. Furthermore, there are perks that enhance Strength, Discipline, or Intellect. Since the gauntlets are specialized for grenades, Discipline is recommended. You can re-roll the latter perks using Glass Needles.
What does “New Tricks” do?
Particularly exciting is the perk “New Tricks”. Our friend Nexxoss Gaming has taken a closer look at this perk in the following video:
The grenade jump is a grenade that splits upon impact, creating multiple homing projectiles. This grenade is enhanced with “Shinobu’s Vow”. What does this mean specifically?
Without this exotic, the grenade jump splits into four projectiles. With the gauntlets, it splits into 5 projectiles. This results in a higher chance of dealing more damage.
Additionally, Nexxoss Gaming notes that the grenade appears to recharge almost two seconds faster when wearing Shinobu’s Vow. He suspects this is related to the fact that you receive two grenade charges thanks to the exotic, which causes them to regenerate faster.

Brief conclusion: These Hunter gauntlets are definitely interesting, as they significantly enhance the grenade jump. The biggest advantage is likely the availability of two grenade charges – because two grenade jumps can be extremely deadly in PvP.
