In the MMO shooter Destiny, there is no way to see how a specific shader would look on the Guardian in-game. However, this is now possible on a website. A shader previewer has been developed.
In many MMOs, it has long been standard to view how an item would look on one’s astral body either at the vendor or by clicking on an armor piece. This “preview” or “try-on” function is particularly popular among aesthetes who value shaping their character. In Destiny, this option does not exist. The various shaders practically scream “try me out”. It is one of the features in Destiny that somehow didn’t make it into the finished game.
Destiny has 53 different shaders, you can try them all on
On the website destinytracker, which was recently officially introduced and praised by Bungie, there is a “shader preview”. The player simply needs to enter their Gamertag if they are on Xbox One or Xbox 360, or their PSN ID in a field if they are playing Destiny on PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4. After entering the Gamertag/PSN ID, the page provides 53 different shaders to choose from, and the player can decide with a simple click which color pot they would like to fall into.
This is a nice feature for players who are deciding whether to buy a shader for Glimmer or who are wondering what goals they could pursue in Destiny. It’s also frustrating to struggle to reach rank 3 in an event and then see Goldspiral (Iron Banner) or Prism Dancer (Wrath of the Queen) on their Guardian going to waste.
Two shaders are free, Chatterwhite and God of War need to be earned
By the way, you can easily obtain two of the shaders; they are available by entering a code at Bungie. If you’re missing them, you can take care of that right away:
• Double Banshee: 7MM-VPD-MHP
• Oracle 99: RXC-9XJ-4MH
Just a quick note about the two super-popular shaders Chatterwhite and God of War: To acquire Chatterwhite, the raid “The Glass Chamber” in Destiny must be completed, no matter how. God of War is random – many receive it after a level-up of the Cryptarch.
