Although the Guardians in MMO shooter Destiny are known for diligently and purposefully revealing all the secrets and tricks of the game, there are still mysteries whose mechanics or conditions have not yet been explored. One of the last riddles in Destiny is the Scarab Heart.
In forums like reddit.com, there is still disagreement on how to obtain the coveted emblem. We summarize what is confirmed about the “Scarab Heart” and what is more of a rumor.

This is confirmed:
- The emblem is only available in the “Trials of Osiris” mode. In the Tower, at the emblem collection, it can be found under “Crucible”, alongside other ToO and Iron Banner emblems.
- The blue-black emblem only appears after completing a ToO match, when the rewards are given. It cannot “drop” during a match – at least, there are no reports of that.
- You can only obtain the Scarab Heart if you have flawlessly filled your card with 9 wins and then continue playing and winning. No one has yet contested this surely not too easy condition.
- Furthermore, there is unanimous reporting that it is a random drop, and this randomness occurs rather infrequently. A mechanic that must be fulfilled for the emblem to be guaranteed as a reward has not yet been discovered. It seems to be up to luck whether you receive the “Scarab Heart” after a victory with a filled card or not.

This is hotly debated:
- There are “evidence videos” showing that the coveted status symbol drops after victories when carrying a card with 9 – 0, meaning no defeats were suffered. However, there are numerous reports that the emblem appeared despite a defeat on the card, mostly during the eleventh victory. Confirmations are scarce.
- Moreover, there is discussion about whether the buffs from Brother Vance may be used or not. In the videos where the emblem drops, it is always assured that none were used. However, some Guardians in forums believe it to be irrelevant. Only 9 victories should shine on the card, the rest does not matter.

This is rather unrealistic:
- There are also reports from players who firmly believe that the emblem appeared well before the 9th victory for them. Whether this is true or if there are just show-offs or lucky individuals cannot be definitively assessed. However, we find this version rather unrealistic.
In ancient Egypt, the scarab was a symbol of good luck representing “resurrection and life”. It was often associated with the course of the sun and was symbolically linked to the sun god Re. Thus, it had a strong solar aspect. The scarab is inspired by an animal: the sacred dung beetle. It is a dung-eater that rolls dung balls for the females to lay their eggs in. Whether this information is helpful for enlightenment seems … um … probably not.
