In recent days and weeks, the Destiny hype train has picked up steam again. Gradually, numerous details about the upcoming autumn expansion “Rise of Iron”, in German “Das Erwachen der Eisernen Lords”, have been released. At Gamescom 2016, Bungie’s MMO shooter was also among the most exciting highlights.
Many former players who left their Guardian gear collecting dust for months became intrigued and are now pondering whether they should give the game another chance. After all, Bungie is finally delivering what players have long been yearning for: Fresh content.
What is Destiny?
Destiny is a first-person MMO shooter set in a fictional future. You are the Guardians of the last city on Earth and must use the Traveler’s power to repel the darkness. The game offers extensive cooperative and competitive activities.
Destiny has always been praised for its gunplay. It simply feels great to run through the Destiny universe with a weapon in hand. This MMO shooter possibly offers the best gunplay on consoles. As a new or returning player, you can look forward to this.
However, the Destiny world was not exclusively painted in rosy colors, especially in the first year. There were also some issues and “growing pains” that the developers had to chase after initially.
With “The Taken King” and the dawn of Year Two, the game reached a new level: In addition to a lot of fresh content, the core mechanics, such as the leveling and loot system, were overhauled. Much of what was criticized in the first year has been improved. The progression system and endgame are now much better received. So if you stopped playing just a few months after the launch of Vanilla Destiny, it might be worth taking another look at this MMO shooter. Because the brilliant gunplay is now built on a solid foundation.
“The Rise of Iron” builds upon this foundation and fills it with more substance. The core mechanics remain intact, but new content is added for PvE and PvP alike. There is again plenty to do.
The connection is quickly made
If you have dropped out early, you can purchase all previous content and “Rise of Iron” bundled with “Destiny: The Collection”. Note: If you have been playing on PS3 or Xbox 360 until now, you will need to upgrade to the current console generation PS4 or Xbox One. RoI and all future content will only be available on these two consoles. You can find info about account import here.
If you are new to Destiny but want to “skip” all previous content to jump straight into the fresh stuff, you will receive a Character Boost to Level 40 with “Destiny: The Collection.” This allows you to dive directly into RoI content. Of course, it is also possible to start from the beginning, experience all the adventures, and level up gradually.
What new PvE content does “Rise of Iron” offer?
For many Guardians, the PvE content is the highlight of Destiny. Fighting against nasty NPCs together as a team is probably unique in this form. Raids, which are extensive group activities designed for six players, are particularly celebrated.
In “The Rise of Iron,” story missions about the Iron Lords, quest lines, a new strike, revised strikes, and a new raid called “Wrath of the Machine” will be added.
Additionally, there are plenty of fresh toys: from weapons and armor pieces to eight unique artifacts that have game-changing abilities. Furthermore, the maximum light level is increased.
You will also be traversing a new zone called the “Plaguelands” and a new social space called “Felwinter Peak.” The new enemies are called Sparkers.
Improvements in PvP
In PvP, you will find new maps and the new mode “Supremacy”, which we have already introduced in detail.
The biggest innovation here is the Private Matches and Custom Games. This makes organized PvP matches possible. The door to tournaments and all sorts of fun matches is opened.
For all former Guardians who say: “Yeah, the gunplay was okay, but otherwise Destiny simply had too little to offer,” taking a look at “Rise of Iron” might be worthwhile. The major growing pains of the MMO shooter have been overcome. And with the collection edition and the Level 40 boost, your entry and connection are made extremely easy.
