In Destiny, the Iron Banner is approaching the finish line. We take a look at the “rerolling” that makes the Iron Banner weapons something very special.
The Iron Banner is a monthly recurring PvP event in Destiny. Each month, there are two weapons available for purchase. The two weapons from the previous Iron Banner can also be obtained as random rewards at the end of matches when a corresponding rank is reached.
The two purchasable weapons (in March a machine gun and an auto rifle) already come equipped with “fixed” values. The special thing, however, is that they can be “rerolled”. This is called “re-forging.”
Legendary weapons are becoming increasingly important in Destiny
Through re-forging, legendary weapons can have such good traits that they rival exotic weapons. In some cases, they can even surpass them.
Many players are focusing on collecting especially strong legendary weapons that do not exist in this combination and fill a gap in the endgame.
While exotic weapons, the so-called “Raid Legendaries,” and the directly purchasable legendary weapons from Vanguard and Crucible vendors are always the same, this does not apply to randomly found legendary weapons (e.g., from Strikes, engrams, Crucible matches).
This is usually not something that can be planned, as there is no way to consistently find specific legendary weapons in different variations. Farming is not possible in this way.
Iron Banner weapons can be “planned” to be found again
An exception are the Iron Banner weapons. Once they have been purchased or found, they can be re-forged. This changes the properties and perks of the weapon, making it as if the item had been “found a second time.”
Tip: Some players get two versions of a weapon and reforge the weaker one until it becomes better than the stronger version, then they continue reforging the other version.
Reforging legendary weapons costs two Light Shards. Depending on the weapon type, different “properties” are possible, including particularly strong perks like “Field Scout” (increases ammunition) or Firefly (explosion effect on precision kills). However, not every weapon can take on every property.
This is how handcrafted elemental damage weapons are possible
Primary weapons in the Iron Banner cannot deal elemental damage. This is only reserved for special and heavy weapons. Therefore, “Raid primary weapons” in Destiny like the Fate Bringer or Erlass der Überseele are highly sought after: They can deal elemental damage as legendary weapons.
Elemental damage is particularly important for the weekly Nightfall strike. Here, modifiers are usually active that significantly favor a specific damage type.
In an Iron Banner week like this, where the machine gun Jolder’s Hammer is available, players can also forge weapons in a way that fits into their setup, ensuring they can find a machine gun with the right specialization for each elemental damage type (Solar, Arc, Void).
The YouTuber Nexxos Gaming shows how he created three weapons from this week’s machine gun “Jolder’s Hammer” for every Nightfall burn.
Extremely sought-after weapons for such a re-forging spree are also the sniper rifle “Efrideet’s Spear,” the shotgun Felwinter’s Lie, or the rocket launcher “Radegast’s Wrath.”
This “forging of legendary weapons” is one of the few ways players can stand out from others in the current Destiny.
