At the end of each race, you receive rewards. Well, “you” do, I don’t! At least not as cool stuff as the others. Someone got a helm called “Racing Wing”. Wow, that looks good! I can’t help but wonder, where is mine?
My fourth race finally takes place on Mars. It’s also a pretty nice track. I technically finished first, although Bungie disagreed: I was clearly ahead at the finish line, but in the end, he was a tenth of a second ahead of me, according to the results display. The results display is lying. I’m sure of it. During the race, I was also once brutally picked up by some stupid wind turbine. Otherwise, my victory would have been in the bag.
The first loot looks incredible

But the rewards at the end of the race instantly improve my mood. A fine glove shines, and a… uh… whatever that is. It turns out to be a “Racer’s Badge”. This improves my SRL event reputation. Well, that surely can’t hurt. I think. The gloves have zero defense, but they look incredibly cool. My light level drops to rock bottom. But that doesn’t matter – I think.
Now is not the time to challenge Oryx, but it’s time for my fifth race! Here I’m back on Venus. Slowly, my driving style doesn’t look so clumsy anymore. L1 and R1 really help me gain an advantage! So I lead the entire race. In the end, I finish second. Great. Again no victory. However, this time I got some nice stuff: I have now earned the C-license, as instructed by Holliday. Furthermore, I will no longer drive “Ravensteel”, but “Snowcry”. It’s a pretty nice vehicle. I’ll keep it.
Now I’m flying back to the Tower. I want to get a compliment from the charming Ms. Holliday. On the way to the hangar, I notice that the stairs are painted in the colors of the Sparrow event. Is that new? I haven’t noticed it before. As I ponder this with a furrowed brow, I arrive at Holliday. I didn’t get a compliment, but I did get a strange quest. I don’t yet know how to fulfill it. Never mind. The B-license still needs to be acquired.
And so I throw myself back on the Sparrow ‒ and into the fray. This time I indeed win a race. I’ve always known that my Sparrow skills could only lead to victories ‒ if it weren’t for treacherous cliffs or devious results screens getting in the way. I receive a chest piece as a reward. I like it. But I’m still waiting for my sleek helmet…
