In the MMO shooter Destiny , the content of the next expansion “The Taken King” is being revealed step by step. This week, it was the Dreadnought, the new zone.
This week’s Weekly Update introduced the “Dreadnought”, Oryx’s sky ship. This is where the September expansion “The Taken King” will primarily take place: there will be patrols, Public Events, Strikes, and even a Raid.
Now, some may clench their fists while reading this and shout: “Yes, finally info!”, but the opposite is the case. They clearly intend to reveal as little as possible about the new zone that is supposed to host the Raid, Strikes, and much more: Because then they would essentially be spoiling the story, gameplay content, basically everything.
Thus, this Weekly Update turned out surprisingly thin: There was a lot of concept art. And when many images are shown, that is a sure sign in Destiny that they do not want to say much.
We want to tell you that there are many secrets we currently cannot disclose
It is said that there will be a dark and threatening atmosphere in the Dreadnought. The challenge with the design was that the space feel hostile and unwelcoming, yet players understand this as an invitation to spend as much time as possible in the “Fortress between the clouds full of treasures”.
There will be many secrets that players may not discover on their first pass but only after they repeatedly roam through the fortress in the Saturn rings.
There are mentions of Public Events, of bosses in the Strikes there, and repeatedly of “secrets.” Patrols, they promise, will no longer be “easy mode”; they too will now hold secrets. New mechanics can be discovered, hidden treasures, and again and again these secrets.
New zone to be presented in live stream – important revelations are on the way
A glimmer of hope amidst all the enigmatic comes at the end: The Dreadnought, the new zone, will be introduced before September 15. In a live stream, interested parties will be able to watch it. Overall, the Weekly Update hinted that we could be entering the hot phases soon: They had guests who had prepared a story, and soon players would learn about it.
In the past, Bungie has collaborated with major US sites like IGN and Game Informer, as well as YouTubers who were able to present significant revelations over time. Perhaps a bigger story will come from that direction in the next hours, or it will happen next week at Gamescom in Cologne. The story could indeed be about the evolution of characters (and probably their gear) in the second year of Destiny. At least they are talking about evolutions, of advancements.
The currently most important topic we know almost nothing about is whether and how weapons and armor from Year 1 can be brought to the new max level with “The Taken King”, assuming such a new max level is coming.
Player reports important, but not decisive for the ban of Crucible sinners
The bans against players, which we reported on earlier today, have been further clarified: Bungie has excluded several hundred from the Crucible and continues to ask honest players to report diligently. Those who are frequently reported will be looked at more closely by Bungie, with an emphasis on not banning any innocents.
Next week, they will be at Gamescom in Cologne. From then on, the information on “The Taken King” should “shift into hyper-drive”, it was stated, and then they concluded a Weekly Update with relatively little information, many images, and a promise that there would soon be significantly more news about the expansion.
In just a few hours, we will learn what Xur is bringing. He will appear on Friday, July 31, at 11:00 am in the Tower or Reef. We will receive him and report on his inventory in this article.
