Destiny 1 was fully embraced as a hobby by many Guardians. It’s not uncommon for other pastimes to take a back seat. While long raid nights and the “really last 10 minutes” went harmoniously for some couples, elsewhere many relationships were put to a tough test.
For not every girlfriend, boyfriend, or spouse understands the tough virtual Guardian life – even if one does not neglect any of one’s real-life commitments.

This is how our author Sven feels
First up is our Destiny expert Sven: Personally, I received a lot of generous freedom from my wife for a long time and was able to treat Destiny 1 like a real hobby. Whether spontaneous raids or long Iron Banner sessions until the early morning hours – that was never a problem, as long as family life and work did not fall short.
However, with the addition of family and the increasing age of the kids, gaming took a back seat more and more.
Dad increasingly focused on leveling up his little lights instead of his beloved Hunter. Instead of leveling the Arcstrider subclass, he worked on the goalkeeping skill tree of the football class or made a hunt for the coveted exotic seahorse emblem.
And since my job at MeinMMO, gameplay time has to be fought for even harder. Although my wife is still unusually lenient when it comes to my time in Guardian attire, the evenings where every extra minute in the game has to be fought for with ten minutes of argument are increasing. Because if you spend the whole day with Destiny, at some point, understanding falls short for the fact that Destiny still often remains the focus after work.
But I must say: Since I’ve had to fight more for my gaming time in Destiny, the actual playing feels much more satisfying and intense than ever before.
And when it matters, there is always a green light from the boss. Because she knows exactly that Destiny is more than just a game for me, but really a matter of the heart. Thanks for that once again.
