At Destiny , Activision confirmed what has basically been known for a few days: The PlayStation-exclusive items from “The Taken King” will remain exclusive to Sony’s console at least until Fall 2017.
The “Rise of Iron” expansion will bring new PS4-exclusive content in Fall. These have a time exclusivity until “at least Fall 2017”. This is not particularly surprising. Because Sony and publisher Activision have a marketing deal, which is why owners of Sony’s gaming console are favored with time-exclusive content in Destiny.
So far, it was assumed that this time window always corresponds to one year. For example, Xbox Guardians received the formerly exclusive Year One content at the beginning of Year Two, such as the Hand Cannon Fatebringer. And it is also stated for the RoI items that these will not come to Xbox until Fall 2017 at the earliest. But “Rise of Iron” now brings a change: With this expansion, the PS-exclusive TTK items will be extended for another year.
“At least Fall 2016” does not mean “Fall 2016”
Once these content pieces from “The Taken King” were listed as available until “at least Fall 2016”. However, the focus here is on “at least”. Just a few days ago, astute Guardians noticed a discrepancy: Because on the Destiny website and in the PS-exclusive content of the “The Collection” edition, the TTK items are now listed with “at least Fall 2017”.
An Activision representative confirmed to Polygon that the “Fall 2017” information is correct. However, a spokesperson for the publisher said they could not confirm exactly when the information changed from 2016 to 2017.
In short: This means that Xbox players will have to wait another whole year for items like the Jade Rabbit or Zen Meteor. Consequently, there was also great frustration and confusion when the hints spread online a few days ago.
