The weekly Nightfall strike in the MMO shooter Destiny takes place on the Moon this week, taking on the Summoning Pits. Players will be dealing with the Hive.
Every time we say that the Nightfall has something special this week, two minutes later it’s said to be nonsense. A group of heavily armed Guardians effortlessly cracks it and gives us the finger. Let’s just say: This week, the Nightfall seems not to be without its challenges, even though there will surely be players who will devour it for breakfast, wipe their mouths, and ask for seconds.

What is the weekly Nightfall in Destiny?
In short: The weekly Nightfall strike in Destiny marks the beginning of the week for experienced players every Tuesday. Completing it grants a buff that provides 20% more experience and reputation for the rest of the week. Additionally, the Nightfall strike is rewarding in its own right. There is a chance for exotic items and strange coins, which are needed for Xur and his exotics.
Where are we headed this week?? This week we are going to the Moon, into the “Summoning Pits.”
What are the modifiers? The modifiers this week are as usual Nightfall and Epic. Epic ensures that the Nightfall strike is quite challenging, even harder than a “heroic strike.” And Nightfall means: If all Guardians die, it’s back to orbit.
The other three modifiers are “Lightswitch“, which causes enemies to deal significantly higher melee damage, “Angry“, which makes enemies not retreat, and “Arc Burn“.
This always raises the interesting question: What type of damage is increased this week? Arc Burn is the only elemental damage modifier. That means that electric weapons, thunder cannons, and everything in that direction deal significantly increased damage. This applies to both enemies and Guardians.

Lightning is key, a bit of heat for the Wizards
Many were hoping for “Solar Burn” to properly utilize the Icebreaker that was recently available from Xur, as Wizards would then be easier to defeat. That hope has not been fulfilled. Due to Arc Burn, the instance is trickier; one has to play more cautiously as some enemies deal electric damage. Since the Nightfall basically consists of “Shoot and Hide and Shoot” every week, it is all manageable, as seen in the videos, as long as you are patient and keep your head down when things get heated.
Weapons such as Fatebringer or the Vision of Confluence are recommended. It is advisable to have a scout rifle with Arc damage, although an Arc fusion rifle is also not to be despised.
Against the Wizards, who are known to come from the Moon, solar damage – i.e., heat damage – is still recommended.
There are again so-called “cheese” spots this week, which significantly ease the fight. On Reddit, especially a rock in the back left corner of the map is recommended.
We have prepared some videos for you that show a successful completion of this week’s Nightfall strike and look like a lot of fun (and they also utilize sneaky tricks to defeat the highly likable Phogoth).
