In Destiny we take a closer look at “Metall und Fleisch”, “Metal and Flesh”. This quest presents the Guardians with puzzles.
For the fresh content of “Rise of Iron”, you have a book of challenges available. This book indicates which tasks you can still complete in the MMO shooter. Additionally, it rewards you with nice prizes, such as armor packages, shaders, or emblems.
In total, there are 32 tasks in this book, referred to as “milestones”. For most of them, it is clear what to do, such as completing the story or mastering 20 strikes in the SIVA crisis strike playlist. Among the mysterious quests is: Metall und Fleisch.
How do you get the quest “Metall und Fleisch”?
According to the in-game description, you should complete the quest “Metall und Fleisch” for the milestone of the same name. This mission is randomly assigned to you by Shiro-4 after you complete his bounties. However, not all prerequisites are clear as to when he gives it to you.
However, the activation of the quest does not seem to be entirely based on chance. According to user reports, you only receive the mission after completing several other quests, having a higher light level, and being fairly advanced. Only then should you have a chance at “Metall und Fleisch”.
“Metall und Fleisch” is just the beginning
Interestingly, this quest is just the first step of a quest line called “Wrath of the Machine” – the same name claimed by the new raid.
So far, two quest steps are known:
1. Metall und Fleisch
Find and destroy the Devil Splicer leading the Fallen War in the Plagued Lands. For this, you need to:
- Eliminate the Archpriest
- Repair the Siege Engine
- Destroy Aksis
2. Talk to Shiro-4
Speak with Shiro-4 at the Iron Temple.
As a reward, you will receive a SIVA depot key. This will be used to open SIVA depots in the “Wrath of the Machine” raid. Each depot grants rewards once a week.
Starting September 23, the quest line may continue. For then it goes into the raid “Wrath of the Machine”. Some Guardians speculate that you might receive the new exotic raid pulse rifle at the end of the quest line. They draw comparisons to the quest series for the Malicious Touch from TTK.
Bungie states that progress for this milestone can be viewed by all characters on an account, but the requirements must all be met by one character.
By the way: The term “Metall und Fleisch” was used by Bungie months ago to describe the actions of the Devil Splicers. They fuse metal and flesh to become machines, their highest goal of becoming “Machine Gods”.
