Destiny: Maintenance on February 4. – Is the February patch coming? [Update: Back online]

The MMO shooter Destiny will undergo several hours of maintenance today, February 4th. The February patch is expected to be deployed.

Update 10:35 PM: Destiny is back online. Half an hour earlier than expected. We will provide updates on the changes that will become active next week. Here are the planned changes.

Update 8:55 PM: There will be no patch notes this evening; they will arrive next week with the February update. This has been confirmed. However, there will be information about “some fixes and changes,” as shared by community manager DeeJ on Twitter.

Update 6:50 PM: Maintenance is in progress. Everything went according to plan. No new information has been provided yet. The end of downtime for Destiny is still expected to be 11:00 PM. More information is likely in the next few hours. We will keep you updated.

Starting at 5:00 PM, players will no longer be able to log in. The server downtime itself begins on Thursday, February 4th, at 6:00 PM and is expected to last until around 11:00 PM. Destiny will be unplayable for 5 hours on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4.

For many, the most important question is: What exactly will change?

Is the February update coming and what will it change?

Bungie has not provided specific details on what will happen during the 5 hours. However, it is likely that nothing will change in the player experience of Destiny this evening. Experience teaches us that.

It will probably concern the “February patch,” which will become active next week (likely on Tuesday). Starting next Tuesday, February 9, the Scarlet Week will begin. This is a one-week PvP event for Valentine’s Day, a kind of “Trials of Osiris for couples.”

Additionally, the February patch is expected to bring “quality of life improvements for Guardians.” What exactly that entails will be presented tomorrow evening in the Weekly Update. More information will be available on that.

Most people do not expect major changes in February. They will likely come later. Bungie promised after this “small event” the largest game content since “The Taken King” – changes to weapon balance are probably also to be expected. With the still missing exotic weapons and armor, one can also expect at least in parts. But all of that is still speculation.
