Lord of Wolves is an unconventional “shotgun” that resists classification into previous categories. This weapon shares similarities with pulse rifles as it fires five bursts of burning “shot” at enemies per shot.
Guardians who were not familiar with this weapon from year 1 say they were overwhelmed by the “wow” effect when they first used it. Why is that?
How to get the year-2 version of Lord of Wolves in Destiny
In year 1, you could obtain Lord of Wolves through an exotic quest in the Prison of Elders. In the second year of Destiny, you still need to go into the Prison to farm the shotgun. Here are the sources:
- Challenge of the Elders: Complete the Challenge of the Elders in the newly revamped Prison of Elders to earn Lord of Wolves as a random reward.
- Xur: The Agent of the Nine sells this item from time to time.
What makes Lord of Wolves in Destiny special
The exotic special weapon deals solar damage and won’t impress anyone with just a glance at its stats. Particularly, its impact can’t compete with the best shotguns. However, it excels in other talents we will look at shortly. First, let’s see the stats in the graphic:
These are the perks of Lord of Wolves:
- Touch of Malice: Hits with this weapon grant nearby allies +3 recovery. Lasts for 30 seconds.
- Hip Fire: This weapon grants you additional precision when firing from the hip.
Additionally, you can choose between Perfect Balance (lower recoil), Fast Reload, and Extended Magazine.
With Soft Ballistics, Drift Control, and Linear Compensator, you can tweak recoil, impact, and range a bit.
These perks probably won’t send the guardians into cheers. However, Lord of Wolves has hidden talents that only reveal themselves when transitioning from theory to practice:
- When you pull the trigger with Lord of Wolves, the weapon fires five pulses at your enemies at once. One advantage of this is that you can deal significant damage to enemies, eliminating them before they even know what’s happening. However, controlling these 5 shots to ensure they reach their target is not easy. This shotgun is not easy to master.
- Also noteworthy are its magazine size, reserve ammo, and reload speed. Compared to other shotguns, the entire magazine can be filled with just one smooth motion, allowing you to quickly get back into the action.
What can Lord of Wolves do in PvE and PvP?
In both PvE and PvP, Lord of Wolves only favors a specific playstyle: a very aggressive one. If you prefer to operate from the background, you should rely on other special weapons.
If you enjoy getting close to the darkness and other guardians in the Crucible, the weapon receives a thumbs up from many users. Especially for stopping guardians with active supers in the Crucible, it would prove its worth, as its range turns out to be better in practice than the stats suggest.
Some users also report it can stir things up in the Trials of Osiris in the right hands. However, this also presents the greatest downside of this weapon: the 5-shot bursts must first be controlled. Guardians who are used to a shotgun firing only one load of shot per trigger pull will need to adjust.
Most guardians agree on one thing: Lord of Wolves definitely feels exotic, both in power and design. However, it probably won’t set new standards in year 2, as it hasn’t been labeled as an over-weapon yet. Nevertheless, one can conclude: Lord of Wolves is easy to love, but not easy to master.
