The MMO shooter Destiny is experiencing a content drought. Players are getting bored and are quitting to play a competitor. But Bungie is not worried about that.
Honeymoon is Over
For the past few weeks, the excitement around Destiny has faded. For 6 weeks after the release of “The Taken King,” new content was regularly presented: a new weapon showcased here, a hard mode launched there, a PvP event brought back here.
Every week had some special feature. Weapons like the Black Spindle, Sleeper Simulant or No Time to Explain were hidden behind “time locks” and could only be found weeks after their launch. Extensive searches for the exotic swords or the Malicious Touch kept players engaged.
That time is now over. By the end of October, the excitement had diminished. In November, apart from a small patch, not much was happening. Only in December will 15 exotic items and a new “Challenge” mode be released. What the future will bring after that is still completely open.
In the meantime, many are complaining: My friends list is getting empty. They are now playing Halo 5, Fallout 4, Star Wars Battlefront. When will you finally do something? When will something new come?
Players Are Not Married to Destiny
The Game Director of Destiny: The Taken King, “Luke Smith,” was recently asked on Twitter: Are you at Bungie not worried that you’re lacking game content? Although I am a big fan, I am currently playing something else.
Luke Smith’s answer is clear: No, this is not a concern for us. Destiny is not a game that you are married to. The job of the Live Team is to bring you back FOR something.
@OhNoLarrison Nope. Not a concern at all. Destiny isn’t a monogamous game. Live Team’s job is to bring you back FOR something.

Mein MMO thinks: Even if Bungie is relaxed and makes it clear to players “We are in an open relationship,” it is about time to at least set dates for what is coming next. This is the first time in the history of Destiny that there is absolutely no idea of what players can expect, whether DLCs are coming or not.
A hint at what Bungie is cooking up would be welcome. This could happen overnight. A new, somewhat earlier Weekly Update is probably on the way.
