Can the Guardians of Destiny look forward to a new fan event? Bungie has filed for trademark protection for “DestinyCon”.
According to the “United States Patent and Trademark Office”, Destiny developer Bungie has secured the rights to the trademark “DestinyCon”. The application was only filed a week ago – with the classification “fan convention in the field of video games, particularly in connection with the game Destiny”.
There is still no official statement from Bungie, but it seems quite possible that Bungie and Activision are planning their own convention. This may already be used to extensively present the sequel “Destiny 2”. They could take a similar path as Blizzard, which has been using the annual video game fair “BlizzCon” as a stage for important announcements for years.
DestinyCon would not be the first Guardian event
For a few years now, there has been GuardianCon, a fan-organized event led by popular streamers like ProfessorBroman and Gothalion.
The organizer of GuardianCon, ProfessorBroman, has already commented on “DestinyCon”. This year’s GuardianCon will not be canceled despite the new trademark. It will take place from June 30 to July 1 at the “Florida State Fairgrounds Expo Hall”.
Furthermore, ProfessorBroman speculates that Bungie will probably not plan an official convention in the near future. This is more likely a precautionary trademark protection. For this reason, the organizers of GuardianCon also had to change the original name “Destiny Community Con”. However, he can only speculate about this as well.
What and when Bungie will do something with their new brand “DestinyCon” remains to be seen.
