In Destiny, the final boss of the new raid Crota’s End has been defeated almost two hundred thousand times, and it hasn’t always been done fairly.
On Thursday evening, Bungie shared some numbers in the Weekly Update. Crota, the final boss of Crota’s End, has only been defeated 95 times so far. Extremely low.
Now the Community Manager DeeJ tweeted again, saying that the numbers were probably a bit outdated. Crota has now been defeated 162,321 times and the number keeps growing.
Wow! Old data was old. A few days makes a huge difference. Confirmed Crota kills: 162,321. And counting…

Crota cheese in Destiny is technical this time, not clever
What Bungie doesn’t say but they surely know, and what almost everyone probably knows by now: There is a new “cheese”, a cheat, an exploit to make the fight against Crota ridiculously easy.
This time it’s also not some “clever” method that utilizes game mechanics, where you shove him off the platform, where there is some secret safe spot or blast him away with Gjallarhorn, but is the blatant exploitation of a technical error: It was accidentally discovered by a fireteam, then spread via YouTube and… well.
The Destiny community is so connected that such a cheat spreads like wildfire.
In the last Weekly Update, they joked that Atheon had been defeated 2.4 million times, surely also dozens of times “legit”, as intended. It might be that they will write the same for Crota as well.
Will the Crota exploit be fixed quickly?
The question is whether Bungie will fix this during the holiday season. The last Weekly Update sounded rather like it is time for Christmas and New Year for at least two weeks now. Maybe a precise hotfix will come anyway. Until then, it is up to each Guardian whether they want to exploit this for a bit of loot. One thing is clear: This is not a “cheese”, not an exploitation of a game mechanic, but a clear cheat. Exactly the kind of stuff for which players in other MMOs have been banned or penalized.
Some are already saying: Good that this time the hard mode is a few weeks away, so Bungie can let the Guardians find all kinds of cheeses and cheats in normal mode and it will go legit in hard mode.
