In the Prison of Elders, many Guardians currently prefer the “close your eyes and give it to him” tactic: They take down both Skolas and Qodron in record time, without having to pay attention to special boss mechanics. For this, the Gjallarhorn is often used, the strongest weapon in the game. Another key element of such burst strategies is the Titan. Because he has the ability to provide the group with a damage buff through his “Bubble”. But does “Weapons of Light” really give the Gjallarhorn a damage advantage?

Normally, Weapons of Light, when additionally boosted, provides “35%” more damage with every weapon. In the video, the player tests this with sniper rifles like Black Spindle: Yep, that’s right. 35% more damage.
Rocket launchers do not receive the 35% bonus. Because they work differently. For rocket launchers in Destiny the damage is generated from various damage sources. And the Titan’s damage buff only affects the actual impact, not the explosion or the cluster rockets. Therefore, the buff from “Weapons of Light” for rocket launchers in Destiny is not 35%, but only amounts to a fraction. With 8% or even below.
Gjallarhorn even has less bonus damage
With Gjallarhorn, there is something else. The weapon has the hidden perk “Grenades and Horseshoes”. The name comes from the saying: “Close is also off. This applies to everything, but not for throwing grenades and horseshoes, because close enough is good enough.”
Grenades and Horseshoes ensures that the rockets explode when they come within 2 meters of their target. Usually a great thing: However, it is said in the video that this has a hidden side effect: Sometimes rocket launchers cause no “impact” damage at all and detonate before reaching the target. Then there is nothing that could be enhanced by Weapons of Light, and the bonus is 0%.
Therefore, it is not recommended to rely on “Weapons of Light” with Gjallarhorn. Depending on how often the impact does not occur, the damage advantage fluctuates between 0 and 8%. This applies not only to Gjallarhorn, but also to other rocket launchers with the special perk.
The buff is therefore not necessary in burn strategies. The Titan can rather apply the Blessing of Light to strengthen the group’s defense.
