The developers of Destiny 2 have released some official numbers for the 6th anniversary of the entire franchise. We now know how many players have ever played Destiny 1 and 2 and how long you have all been playing in total. However, this is not a big surprise for many fans.
How many players does Destiny have? Since the first Destiny launched in 2014, a huge number of players have distinguished themselves as Guardians in the fight against various alien scum. According to developer Bungie, a total of 167 million players (or registered accounts) have been active in the titles Destiny and Destiny 2 to date.
Is that a lot? Yes, those are impressive numbers. Because the undoubtedly popular and successful MMORPG World of Warcraft had only about 100 million registered player accounts a good 10 years after its release. You can read about it in this infographic on Blizzard’s site. Destiny has attracted more than one and a half times as many players in almost half the time.
How long do they all play? This impressive number of players has amassed over 8.6 billion play hours, during which loot has been farmed and aliens have been shot in their ugly faces. When converted, this impressive number amounts to 979,052 years spent only in Destiny.
For comparison, the emergence of modern humans (Homo sapiens) is dated according to Wikipedia to about 315,000 years ago. So you have spent more than three times longer playing Destiny than there has been modern humanity.

Also funny: On the Bungie blog, the developers posted a recipe for baking an original Destiny birthday cake. MeinMMO author Philipp Hansen has also tried his hand at a Destiny cake – but it was rather “meh”.
Which class is the most popular in Destiny?
The class that everyone suspects is really the most popular: There is really no big surprise here. Because as many Destiny fans have suspected, a large portion of the fans actually play the Hunter class. Across both games, a total of 38 percent of users have chosen the agile Hunter.
How do the other classes perform? Unfortunately, there are no spectacular numbers to report here. Both the hefty Titan and the powerful Warlock have been played by 31 percent of players in both titles.
This also matches the result of the last Guardian Games, where the Hunters were also numerically in the lead.
