In year 1, there was often only one topic: What is the nightfall next week? And what will Xur bring on Friday?
At the height of the “What will Xur bring on Friday” madness, a Japanese player appeared in the Destiny subreddit who could predict months in advance what Xur would eventually have: Megamanexe4.
There was apparently a way to peek at Xur’s future inventories by manipulating the timer. The Nightfall could also be predicted reliably this way, and Megaman had discovered these methods.
Thus, people knew for a while: “He will eventually bring Thunderlord” or Xur will “have this inventory once” – exact dates were often not known, but sometimes they were. Guardians really knew days in advance what would be brought on Friday.
For a while, Megaman and Bungie engaged in a cat-and-mouse game. Bungie even swapped Xur’s inventories around.
This was also the time when leaks were known for what the next patch would bring because dataminers had already found everything.
Eventually, Bungie got tired of it, closed all leaks and information sources. Since then, it has been a mystery what the next patch brings. And what Xur has, we find out on Friday morning and not 3 days earlier.
