In Destiny, it is tradition to “glitch” the final boss of a raid, to defeat him with a trick. Poor Atheon was often shoved off his platform.
Crota was particularly disgracefully dealt with. Just before Christmas, players found out that one could easily defeat Crota if the group leader, who is hosting the game, pulls his LAN cable. Then Crota would become inactive and could be slaughtered.
The bug remained relatively “semi-known” for a long time, it was discussed in forums. We at Mein MMO decided at that time not to report on it because it was a severe exploit.
Bungie was just coming off stressful months during the Christmas holidays, and it took a while before the “Crota-Lan Cable” bug was fixed.

Crota has a hard fate anyway. Later, he became a sort of “Guardian punching bag” and was taken down in every conceivable way. Guardians even imposed handicaps on themselves while defeating him. In October 2015, someone even beat him to death. He used the “drum kit” from Rock Band.
