In the MMO shooter Destiny, the raid “The Glass Chamber” has now been defeated for the first time by a team of only three Guardians on the difficulty level “hard”.
The raid “The Glass Chamber” is currently the only raid in Destiny. Some players probably know it as well as the back of their own hand. For some time now, they have started to perform stunts or have imposed handicaps on themselves.
In the first weeks, top teams had goals like “get through as quickly as possible”, and there were reports of the first speed runs. Later, they imposed handicaps, lowering the number of Guardians as much as possible to report that they completed the raid with just four, three, or even two players. However, this was all on “normal” difficulty level. On “hard” mode, which until recently had been completed by only about 40,000 players, this was rather rare.
The trend in Destiny is towards handicap raids
Last night, for the first time, a group managed to complete the raid “The Glass Chamber” with just three players on hard. This is not available in a fun 40-minute video where all the fails have been cut out (that will be provided later), but in an “Extended Cut”, so to speak, lasting seven and a half hours. Since this might be too much for the hardcore fans among you, we have fast-forwarded in the video and show you the final attack on “Atheon”.
Here, as they say, they also use the only “mjo … trick” to wrap it up. Because Atheon is actually not manageable with 4 players. With only three players, he would always teleport away all players, who would then be stuck in the future or past and would perish without anyone to rescue them. This is circumvented with the Lazarus ability of the Sunwalker: he dies just before the teleport and then gets back up.
Or would you prefer perfect?
Another trend in Destiny at the moment: completing the raid “perfectly”, without anyone dying; there is also an achievement for that. However, rocking this thing on hard with three people is obviously in a different league. There’s a bit of an invitation in the videos for Bungie to release the next raid. It’s unclear what else the players might come up with: one has already soloed the Templar, and the next raid group pulverized Atheon in 17 seconds; there’s not much left.
As impressive as these results are, Destiny has a “little something” of flex raids. The HP of the mobs decreases when fewer players are in the raid. However, it is obviously more difficult to proceed with so few players. Unlike classic MMORPG raids, players also regenerate their health back very quickly in Destiny. Such stunts would not be possible in “classic” raids.
Update 23.10 14:15: In the meantime, as announced, the shortened version of the complete run is now available. For this, they simply cut out all the fails and wipes.
