The battle axe from Destiny “Rise of Iron” has been replicated by a “real” blacksmith. However, the replica is not quite as large as the “original version.”
In order to promote “The Rise of Iron” just weeks before its launch, Bungie had the flaming battle axe replicated, which Guardians are already familiar with from the trailer and gameplay scenes of RoI.
According to Bungie, they love the axe so much that they hired a blacksmith to create it in real life. Tony Swatton from Sword and Stone gladly took on this task. You can see the manufacturing process and the final result in the following video:
The Forging of the Axe
The replica is smaller and lighter than the axe wielded by Lord Saladin. Because the weapon, as depicted in Destiny, would be too heavy for a human to wield properly. Swatton estimates that it would weigh around 100 pounds (approximately 45 kg). But the fact that weapons in Destiny are often portrayed somewhat exaggerated should be known to anyone who has taken a closer look at the firearms.
According to Bungie, the crafted battle axe is still heavy and truly a weapon for an Iron Lord.
For the first time, the axe was seen when concept art for “Rise of Iron” leaked. At that time, it was still uncertain whether it was an axe or a hammer that was on fire. Now we know: Yes, it is an axe. And this axe is a weapon worthy of an Iron Lord.
Destiny: Rise of Iron will be released on September 20, 2016, at 11 AM.
What do you think of this replica?
Update 2.4.0 is coming to Destiny. Here you will find all the changes it will bring. There will also be hours of maintenance on that day.
