Step 3: Patience and time are required – and no, that does not refer to the weapon
The final step to the exotic sword is then a grind-and-farm task.
You need to search for planet materials that correspond to the element.

You need “rare planet materials.” The only way to get them is by farming normally, but only about every tenth or fifteenth time. This is quite annoying and requires patience. You need 10 of these things.
How to farm rare versions of Relic Iron, Spinmetal, and Helium Filaments for the exotic sword
Materials like Relic Iron, Spinmetal, or Helium Filaments were practically unnecessary to farm in Destiny for almost a year. But those who experienced that know how annoying it was. Additionally, you still need to complete “Elemental Kills.” But at this point, that shouldn’t be a problem anymore.
Now talk to Lord Shaxx again. And the following Wednesday, you should be able to lay your hands on your exotic sword during the weapon day. Unless there is still a task to complete. It is not really known at this moment … but well, you’ve probably suffered enough by then.

Seal the Sword
Update 23.9.: There is indeed one more step “Seal the Sword.” You need to pilgrimage into a special version of the “Dark Blade” strike (The Sunless Cell) and take out Alak-Hul, the Dark Blade, and a special enemy, Overseer of Oryx, within 30 seconds. The special enemy must be dealt with first.
The special enemy is:
- Heolstor for the Dark Drinker
- Adleg for the Cleaver
- Thracu for the Bow Thrower
The strategy that seems to work is: First, significantly weaken the Dark Blade, then switch to the adds, kill them, then back to the Dark Blade, and finish. It doesn’t seem too hard, but everyone in the fireteam needs to understand that they need to leave the adds alone until they are ready for them.
Once that is done, head to Shaxx. You will receive the 310 exotic sword for which you went through so much trouble. You will keep your legendary sword in the process.
