In Destiny, the path to level 32 goes through the Light Shards, a coveted upgrade material for the legendary raid armor. But how does one get there?
With the DLC “The Darkness Anew”, a new light level of 32 became reachable. A light level of 144 is required for that. You can only achieve this if you wear at least 3 raid pieces from Crota’s End and also have a “new” exotic armor piece, as the other rules apply. Alternatively, you can also wear 4 raid armor pieces. Because only these items reach a maximum upgraded light value of 36 (4 times 36 is 144 and thus light level 32).
The path to the maximum level in Destiny requires 63 Light Shards and an exotic armor piece
Now it would not be an unduly large problem to get three legendary raid armor pieces and an exotic item. After all, they have changed the “loot” in Destiny so that unlucky players are not too disadvantaged anymore. And Xur delivers an exotic armor piece every week that goes up to light value 36.
But with the new system, it is no longer the problem to get raid items, but to upgrade them accordingly.
Every raid armor piece must be upgraded three times to reach the maximum light value of 36. And for each of these upgrades, you need seven Light Shards. That means: If you want to upgrade three armor pieces, you need 63 Light Shards. But how do you get them?
The 3 Methods to Get Light Shards in Destiny
Light Shards can be found in Destiny in 3 ways:
- Either you find them directly in the raid Crota’s End as materials in chests or after successfully completing a loot section.
- Or you receive them when you dismantle raid armor pieces from Crota’s End, you get two shards for dismantling.
- Or you receive them when you exchange Light Energy for Light Shards with Eris Morn. However, you need to have the maximum reputation rank of 4 with Crota’s Curse for that. We have tips on how to achieve that here.
Besides that, there is currently no way to obtain Light Shards. So it makes no sense to buy vendor armor or event armor and dismantle it. They have blocked that, after it was abused back during the event “Queen’s Wrath” with the Ascendant materials.
Tip: 63 Light Shards is quite a lot. By ensuring this amount, Bungie makes sure that players go into the raid Crota’s End more frequently. Those who raid with more than one character also receive loot more frequently and can thus accelerate their ascent to level 32. When Hard Mode opens in January, there should also be more loot in Crota’s End. There’s no need to overdo it at once, like the first level 32. He repeatedly deleted Warlocks, brought new ones to 20, transferred the equipment to them, in order to raid as often as possible in one week.
