In the MMO shooter Destiny , new details about the “Prison of Elders” have emerged. This is the activity that comes into play instead of a raid with House of Wolves.
Yesterday, the plan was to present item upgrades in the live stream for Destiny and introduce the new “Social Space”, the Reef. However, there were also some details about “The Prison of Elders”, the new in-game activity that will replace a raid.
And it was enough for community manager DeeJ to hover over an item for a fraction of a second: That was already enough material for a screenshot, which the community can now thoroughly analyze. Therefore, there is already some information available, even though the activity is only supposed to be officially presented in two weeks.
What we know about the new arena Prison of Elders in Destiny
The Prison of Elders, the developers said, will, alongside the Nightfall or the weekly heroic strike, belong to the endgame activities of Destiny with House of Wolves. The arena will have a “weekly lockout”. Players should be able to earn “Etheric Light” here: This is the item used to upgrade legendary weapons and armor in Destiny to the new maximum levels.
Little is known about the actual arena. Players expect a “horde” mode where three Guardians must face increasingly stronger waves of enemies. Bungie has assured that the arena will be a bit different every week.
While little information is known about the actual gameplay, meaning how the arena plays, we have already had a look at the “reward vendor”. This is Variks, who works for the “House of Judgement”.
What one can buy as Veriks’ reputation increases
He has three reputation levels:
- At reputation level 1, Guardians can probably acquire three class items and two syntheses
- At reputation level 2, there are four ships
- And at reputation level 3, five armor shaders
To get the items, at least the ships and shaders, one will need a “token” of various kinds. These are available for reputation increase with the House of Judgement or when one opens “chests” in the arena. Reputation is also gained in the arena.
Vendor sells items similar to Xur
However, the really interesting part is the rewards that one can obtain without reputation. It looks like Variks sells a legendary armor piece and a legendary weapon every week. Both will start with respective maximums of 42 light or 365 damage.
The weapon costs a “weapon core”, the armor a “armor core.” In addition, he also offers a kind of “engram” for both: a weapon core and an armor core. This surprise egg seems to have all kinds of “Prison of Elders” rewards. Similar to an engram, just with a limited loot table.
These rewards seem to have interesting perks that make a difference in combat against the Fallen. Just like raid armor has always related to the opponents in the original raid.
From the screenshots, it seems that there are “2 items guaranteed” that can be purchased. And then a joker. The new vendor therefore somewhat resembles Xur. It is certainly also designed to take a bit of drop luck out of the game. It is not yet known if legendary weapons and armor can also drop “directly” in the arena itself.
Please note that part of the information is not yet officially confirmed, but merely conclusions drawn from the screenshots of the live stream yesterday. The Prison of Elders is supposed to be officially presented in Destiny on May 6.
