The MMO shooter Destiny takes a page from the MMORPG evergreen World of Warcraft: Those who purchase the expansion can boost a character directly to the level at which the new expansion starts.
Last year, this was a big deal with World of Warcraft: Those who pre-ordered the add-on “Warlords of Draenor” could boost a character of their choice directly to level 90. Level 90 marked the beginning of the story for the new add-on.
Exactly this will also be possible for players with “King of the Possessed”, as it has now been revealed. Anyone who purchases the expansion will be able to boost a character of their choice to the level at which the expansion starts. This applies to everyone: both veterans and newcomers.
At this time, the exact level is still unknown. It is also unclear whether players will receive “start items” as a gift. The boost will come in the form of a “single-use item,” Community Manager DeeJ told the US magazine Polygon. This boost can be applied to both existing and newly created Guardians.
Other games have also adopted this idea: With the new expansion “Knights of the Fallen Empire”, the level boost will also be available for the MMORPG “Star Wars: The Old Republic” by the end of the year. The idea behind this is to allow players to skip game content that no longer reflects the “current state” of the game but is considered outdated. The goal is for players to start right away with the new, good stuff.
The somewhat absurd thing about the decision: In World of Warcraft and Star Wars: The Old Republic, players can skip content that has been in the game for many years and followed design principles from which they have gradually deviated.
In Destiny, newcomers can only skip game content that is only a year old. Or players can use this boost to bring a second or third character to a higher level.
