In the MMO shooter Destiny, the January Iron Banner has started. The Guardians are drawn to the Crucible.
The Iron Banner is back! During this monthly PvP event, Guardians flock to the Crucible to grab the unique weapons and armor pieces with the best rolls possible. There’s also loot up to light level 400, which is a great incentive even for PvP skeptics.
The January Iron Banner in 2017 starts on January 17 at 7 PM. It ends on January 24 at 10 AM. The classic mode “Conflict” will be played. Six Guardians will compete against six other Guardians. There are no zones to control, nor sparks to be sent into the opposing Rift. The controversial mode “Rift” was last time, now no debate will be needed.
This week, the weapons available are the pistol “The Blinding Brand” and the rocket launcher “The Titanium Orchid”. The armor pieces include the chest piece and the gloves.
How to snag loot in the Iron Banner
Since “Rise of Iron”, you can only play “Iron Banner” on PS4 and Xbox One. To participate, you must also meet these requirements:
- own “The Awakening of the Iron Lords”,
- have a character at level 40
- and display a light level of at least 230.
As light-level advantages are active, you should only venture in with a high light level to avoid being hopelessly overmatched.
There are four ways to obtain loot:
- Purchase from Efrideet: Every month, Efrideet has two of the “Iron Banner” weapons with fixed perks available: This time the pistol and the rocket launcher. Armor pieces can also be purchased from her.
- Random drop after Iron Banner matches: The two weapons that Efrideet offers can drop after matches with random perks. Likewise, the armor pieces and other Iron Banner specific rewards.
- Reward for completing bounties: If you successfully complete Efrideet’s bounties, you will immediately receive a reward. Any Iron Banner equipment piece can randomly be included, not just the items featured this week.
- Random reward for the quest “The Pursuit of Light”, for which you need to reach rank 1, 3, and 5 in the Iron Banner. This quest is available only once!

This changed with “Rise of Iron”
“Rise of Iron” brought not only new weapons and armor pieces but also changed rules:
- Lord Saladin is no longer the Iron Banner vendor, but Lord Efrideet. You will find her at the Felwinter Peak.
- The “Hardened” buff has been removed.
- Reputation packages for ranks 3 and 5 have been removed.
- The daily Iron Banner bounties have been removed. There are only weekly bounties that directly provide rewards.
Good luck in the Iron Banner, Guardians!
The Iron Banner in January can only be played once you have installed update 2.5.0.1. What the patch changes, you can read in the provided link.
