In Destiny, there are indications that Guardians will deal with the Concordat in the future. Possibly in the form of new Exotics.
Just a few days ago, we got a glimpse of all the milestones of the new seal book for the Age of Triumph. Upon its release, many Guardians thought to themselves, “Well, I already have half of that, and I’ll manage the rest before breakfast!”
However, this book also contains “achievements” that Bungie did not show in detail, raising questions. Particularly puzzling is an entry regarding the Traveler: It is called Concordat’s Shadow – the shadow of the Concordat. Given that this book is supposed to document your achievements in Destiny 1, there is surprisingly little to do with this milestone. Because Guardians had nothing to do with it so far.
What is the Concordat?
Many Guardians will already struggle with the term “Concordat,” and it rarely appears in the game itself. The Concordat was a faction – a union of Guardians, like we know today from the New Monarchy, the Dead Orbit, and the Future War Cult.
The leader of the Concordat was Lysander. The specific ideology of Lysander and his faction is unknown, but we do know that the Concordat once rose against the Last City and the Speaker, aiming to topple the existing order. The last uprising of the Concordat took place during Bannerfall. However, the New Monarchy was able to quell the uprising. After that, Lysander was exiled and the Concordat was dissolved.
But why is Concordat’s Shadow a milestone in the seal book? Where do we encounter it in the game?
The mysterious Lysander Sparrow
Just a few months ago, an item was added to the game that directly refers to Lysander and the Concordat: The Sparrow Lysander’s Call. With the “The Dawning” event in mid-December 2016, a mysterious gift appeared in the Tower that could not be opened. The hint was “For those who defied Bannerfall.”
You had to go to the Bannerfall map, resurrect a Ghost there, and then you could open the gift: Lysander’s Call was inside – a green Sparrow. The symbol of the Concordat is also visible on it. Even back then, Guardians scratched their heads and wondered what this gift from Lysander was about. Thematically, it had nothing to do with the Winter event – except that the gift is a Sparrow. Is Lysander back in the Last City and trying to win your favor? How did this gift make it there?
It was also interesting that the Grimoire card for Lysander’s Call is in golden colors. These are usually reserved for significant and exotic items. Guardians speculated that there might be more behind this Sparrow.
Additionally, the quote from Lysander states: Every Guardian wants something: higher speed, a rare weapon, a secret. Learn what it is. Use it.
As the YouTuber My name is Byf now suspects, this quote could have a forward-looking significance. The speed likely refers to the Sparrow we already received. And perhaps the reference to the “rare weapon” signifies that we will soon receive a weapon from Lysander.
Will new Exotics come with the “Age of Triumph”?
The upcoming seal book states that 55 exotic weapons should be collected. According to Byf, however, there are currently only – if we consider the “Year 1”-“Year 2” duplicates – 53 exotic weapons. This means that “Age of Triumph” would need to introduce at least two new exotic weapons.
Here, Byf suspects that finally the exotic rocket launcher might finally come, whose perks have already been in the game since RoI. We have embedded a concept art of it above. Perhaps this is the rare weapon Lysander spoke of, and like the Sparrow, it is tied to a quest.
DeeJ already revealed that Age of Triumph will have secrets that Guardians will discover only in the game. Perhaps this rocket launcher belongs to that.
However, some Guardians are skeptical about this theory. The missing Exotics could simply be new entries for the Necrochasm, the Vex Mythoclast, or even for the Infinity. It is doubted that this mysterious rocket launcher will ever make it to the game. For now, speculation is all we can do.
What is the secret Lysander spoke of?
In addition to speed and weapons, Lysander also spoke of a secret. According to Byf, this could indicate how the future of Destiny will unfold. The speed refers to the Sparrow in “The Dawning”, the weapon to a new Exotic in “Age of Triumph”, and the secret to future events in Destiny 2. Is that possible?
If Lysander placed the Sparrow gift himself in the Tower, it would mean that he has returned. Perhaps he plans once again to attack the Last City and the Tower and to overthrow the Speaker. And perhaps this time he will not be alone, but bring a whole army of Cabal with him. Because according to rumors, a Cabal attack on the Last City is imminent in Destiny 2.
Did Bungie really give us these hints since “The Dawning” with this one Grimoire card regarding the Lysander Sparrow? Or are they mere speculations that have nothing to do with the future of Destiny?
The seal book indeed mentions the Concordat. However, it is a milestone that stands alongside other collections, such as collecting dead ghosts, on one page. Maybe this milestone only means that you caught the Lysander Sparrow during the Dawning…
At this point, nothing has been officially confirmed. But these hints provide plenty of room for delightful speculation. In a Gameinformer interview in August 2016, it was stated that we will learn more about the factions in the future. Perhaps the Concordat will be at the center of it…
