In Destiny we look at a method on how to use the Three of Coins efficiently.
The Three of Coins – How to use them successfully? Do they have a cooldown? Are there promising rituals?
Guardians have been grappling with such questions since the launch of “The Taken King“, when these mysterious consumables were introduced in Destiny. The coins increase your chances of receiving an exotic engram from the next Ultra-kill or through a completed Crucible match. The effect is said to be stackable and increases if the last “Three of Coins” use was unsuccessful. Players are still puzzling over the exact mechanics and specific numbers.
A few months ago, the Executive Producer Scott Taylor shed more light on the matter, by revealing how he uses them: He only takes one coin. And there is no cooldown timer. But where is the best place to use the Three of Coins?
Farming Exotics in the Iron Tomb
The YouTuber Venero TV examined several farming methods with the Three of Coins in detail and concluded: It works best in the Iron Tomb, in the final story mission of “Rise of Iron”.
The difficulty at which you play the mission doesn’t matter. What counts is that you defeat the final bosses, the former, now SIVA-infested Iron Lords, quickly.
Advantages:
- There are three Ultras here. Defeat two, let yourself get killed, and restart from the last checkpoint. This way you can use many coins in a short time.
- In the room, you’ll find the Flame Axe, which you can use to pound the enemies. So you don’t have to waste any Syntheses.
Within two hours, the YouTuber was able to use 131 Three of Coins, resulting in 19 Exotics dropping. So on average, nearly every seventh coin yielded an exotic item. Additionally, Venero TV can confirm: He did not notice any cooldown.
A few months ago, an engaged study by several Guardians took place on reddit, which came to an interesting conclusion. It stated: Yes, the Three of Coins do have a certain cooldown, during which the chance of Exotics drops significantly. In a “speedrun”, you only get an exotic about every 10 coins; if you use them more carefully, only about 5 coins are needed for an exotic.
We have already reported extensively about this “Three of Coins” study here.
