The MMO shooter Destiny is set to receive some exciting new features with the next expansion “The Taken King.” Court of Oryx is perhaps the most interesting of them.
If everything goes according to plan, we will be able to watch the “Court of Oryx” event live on stream at Bungie on Wednesday. We will once again accompany it with a live ticker at Mein MMO. A trailer is likely to come Tuesday evening. Bungie is so delightfully predictable.
It seems that they are saving Court of Oryx as a surprise for the last big blow before the bell tolls. So far, it was only known that it would be an event in the Dreadnought, the new zone. During this event, players will be able to determine how it will unfold, how the variant will be this time .

Brains over Bullet Spam
Now Bungie has provided further information to the gaming print magazine Edge:
- The event starts when a Guardian uses a rune. This rune can either be obtained from a vendor or as a drop.
- There will be four tiers of these runes, resulting in four different difficulty levels.
- This triggers a PvE event that is supposed to be very different from previous enemy encounters. It will be neither about defeating a huge boss with a colossal health bar nor about overcoming progressively stronger waves of enemies, but rather about figuring out boss mechanics and acting cleverly.
- The player who hands in the rune and starts the event will receive the best loot, but everyone else participating in the event will also get a reward.
These are about three of the Boss Encounters
Bungie outlined three boss encounters during the Court of Oryx:
- Three wizards that must be defeated approximately at the same time. If about two are dead and the third is still alive, the two defeated will rise again after a certain time.
- A giant ogre that is invulnerable to the weapons of the Guardians, but takes damage when its adds explode …
- Two knights whose shields are impenetrable unless they stand close to each other, then their shields will cancel each other out.
Quests everywhere
Moreover, there is talk of numerous new quests, sometimes featuring different outcomes or designs than before. In one instance, so many enemy waves are expected that players will be forced to retreat.
On “colony ships,” there should be jumping puzzles on platforms and even a small stealth section .
The quest to unlock the new subclass will be given to players early on, within the first hour of gameplay. Warlocks will showcase their newly acquired and temporarily boosted abilities to the Vex, showing them who is in charge. Hunters and Titans are also expected to be able to display their new abilities in a similar manner.
And a surprise for the new raid in Destiny
Bungie still isn’t talking about the new raid “King’s Fall.” However, they let slip in an interview with Edge that they initially designed the raid on “hard” and then scaled it down to “normal.” And they likely still have a twist hidden up their sleeve.
When pressed further, it was said that there would be more than just the normal and hard difficulty levels. What that means, we hopefully will find out shortly after “The Taken King.” Because the raid is not expected to open right at release.
For those who think: raid or no raid, I can just glitch through – it seems Bungie has employed a team of professional testers to ensure such issues do not occur anymore. They are codenamed “Velveeta,” a type of cheese in the USA. As “cheese,” Destiny players referred to certain tricks and bugs that made previous raids easier.
