In the MMO shooter Destiny , Bungie’s plan with the DLCs is working perfectly. Players are buying Silver like crazy.
“If you see the emotes, you’ll be throwing money against the monitor“, Luke Smith said back then regarding the emotes from the Collector’s Edition. A few months later, what many were so upset about back then is coming true.
Players saw the 18 new emotes in Destiny and they threw money against the monitor. This can now be deduced from the statistics of the PlayStation Store.
Top 5 Add-Ons firmly in Destiny’s hands
All three Silver packages are in the top 5 of the best-selling add-ons on PlayStation systems in the last 7 days, reports Game Informer. During this time, the Halloween event at Bungie was active – for that, players could also spend Silver.
The best-selling add-ons in the PlayStation Store are almost entirely in Destiny’s hands. At number 1 is the add-on “The Taken King”, followed by the medium and large Silver packages, then comes briefly Minecraft, and the smallest 500 Silver package rounds out the top 5.
A quick check in the PlayStation Store over the past 30 days shows a similar picture. Here, the top 1-4 are all Destiny, four times Silver, twice for PS3, twice for PS4.
The message seems clear: The Destiny players are accepting the cash shop and spending money on virtual items.
What does this mean for the future of Destiny?
Destiny recently introduced the cash shop. It was implemented just on October 13, two and a half weeks ago.
So far, it is unclear how this fits into Bungie’s long-term plans. Has an additional source of income simply been opened up here? Or will the rumors come true and the DLCs replace the disappointing 20-Euro DLCs from last year?
At the moment, there is no information about Bungie’s future plans. We do not know whether they will continue to plan larger, paid DLCs or if content, as some sources report, will be released for free in the future. There seems to be enough money now …
